Determined to find a means to support her family, Ms Nguyen Thi Kieu Hanh, a Vietnamese, had initially wanted to sell her hometown food. She successfully bidded a hawker stall but gosh - fate played on her a nasty trick. The stall is ONLY allowed to serve Indian food!
It was tough, but when life gives her lemons, she makes lemonade. She bit the bullet and learnt making Appam in the hard way - self-taught.
Fast forward, Mr Appam stall has established footing, attracting regulars with its 17 varieties on the menu. The rice flour is freshly grind in-house using rice grains imported from Indian. Popular flavours are banana, blue pea gula melaka and egg with butter.
Inspired by Mr Bean and Mr Coconut, two local brand names, Ms Nguyen wants a catchy name that customers can remember easily. Hence the birth of "Mr Appam". How befitting!
Her resilience is admirable. Get yourself her Appam 😋
