And Steffi won her last grand slam afterwards..... I am a Steffi fan and watched this game in 1999. I love Hingis also, especially after her return in 2013-14.....She done a mistake in her early days but when she actually retired in 2017, she was number one doubles player in the world with 25 grand slams..... Steffi is all time best without any doubt.... She conquered 22 grand slams only at the age of 29.....at that age Serena only got 8 .... no comparison..... And in the last two grand slams in her career Steffi won one (this video) and became runners up in the other (actually injured during semifinal)..... True champion

I was twelve when this match happened and I was the biggest Hingis fan. I admired her so much and wanted to be just like her. After this match I was so embarrassed that I cried. For her and also because I'd liked her. It doesn't matter if she was right. In this same match the umpire made some calls in Hingis' favour that were wrong. Graf just got on with the match instead of having a meltdown. Hingis was also leading comfortably at this point, why was she so bothered? And why would she be stupid enough to walk across to the other side? And why would Graf give up the point? If she even knew whether it was in or out. That's literally what you have referees for. As for the crowd - had Hingis not insulted not only Graf but also a French player before the match, been arrogant and bratty and downright mean, they probably wouldn't have turned on her so quickly. Her "bathroom break", the endless discussions, the melodrama after every lost point, the underhand serve... She brought this on herself. She might've been only 18 and under a lot of pressure but a lot of things came together here.

Totally stupid on Hingis' part. Every player gets calls like this every match. You live with it, it usually equals out. She had the match in her bag, Graf was broken.
