that's not Panamanians thats Jamaican......... Black Panamanians only 9 percent of the population en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama theres wikipedia for you. and half of that 9 percent are actually Jamaican/Barbadans who don't even have any foundation of Panamanian heritage whatsoever...thats why the so called Panamanian Brooklyn parade is a crock of shit because thats NOT Panamanian only Jamaican descent people who's grandparents lived in Panama during the times of the construction of the Canal... Most of those in that parade haven't even been to Panama.........

They be having typical spanish first names but english last names. Those panas in Brooklyn are descendant from the west indian immigrants from the colon and Bocas areas of Panama they migrated to Brooklyn in Caribbean/west indian enclaves because they felt more connected and at home around other west indians. This is the reason for the caribbean english dialect.

You're right! I’m Panamanian, born and raised in Panama, currently living in New Jersey, and my English doesn't sound like that neither my Spanish. That accent is from colon, which its an specific province of Panama that the west indies significantly influenced that part of Panama. But the rest of the country, the 97 percent, don't talk like that, not even near.

DON'T SAY PANAMANIAN PLEASE.... This is NOT how Panamanians talk nor act.. Just in your neighborhood Colon.... that's it..... Black Panamanians of Jamaican descent are not even Panamanians... and Black Panamanians only make up 9 percent of the population here is the link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama .... the only reason why there are many so called Black Panamanians in Brooklyn is because many of whom are of Jamaican grandparents fled Panama to live in NY during the times when the Canal was owned by the US and since they spoke a heavily accented jamaican english Life in NY is better than all Spanish Panama..

It is important to bear in mind that Panamá is indeed a melting pot. For example, el abuelito del gran salsero Rubén Blades fue de las Antillas, de la isla de Santa Lucía. He only spoke English. So, does this make Rubén Blades or his family any less Panamanian? Personas de Panamá con raíces en el Caribe son panameños como los sin raíces allí. This means that Panamanians with Jamaican roots are indeed Panamanians. If you were born in Panamá with a passport that recognizes you as Panamanian (y una cédula también), then you are Panamanian. Majah is imitating one kind of Panamanian, probably from Colón. Also, not all people from Colón speak with this accent or are Black! There are many mestizos and other colors from Colón. And also, Brooklyn has a heavy Panamanian community partly because when the canal was completed, el gobierno no les otorgó a los Afro- Panameños la ciudadanía, y por lo mismo, they made their way to the states. Question: Panamá has many East Indians, Chinese, and Jewish people (among others). Are they also less Panamanian because they are “different”? Also, there is a well-known family de La Ciudad named the Botello family. They are Black Panamanians and very well-educated. They do not have ties to the West Indies. We must be careful about how we speak to each other and about each other. Los hechos son los hechos. Vamos a dejar la emoción afuera de la conversación.
