All right. Hi, guys. My name is John. I work for Wilcox Energy. I'm on a basically a routine service call today, and I'm going to show you when it's time to think about replacing your air conditioning system. So I just showed up at this customer's house. Data pleat. So worn off, I can't even read what manufacturer it is. If I had to put a manufacturer on, I think it's a York. Maybe, probably pushing 25 years old or so early 2000. If not late 90s. So what I'm seeing right off the bat is a lot of corrosion, some denting in the outdoor condensing coil here.
I pulled the side cover off immediately, identified a mouse nest that I've already removed a bunch of mice chewing wires here in the corner. It doesn't look like the unit's really been well-maintained in the past. Insulation on the suction line leading to the evaporator coil.
Also just essentially missing, crushing the efficiency. I'm going to run it now, and I'm going to check the refrigerant charge, and it's going to tell me a little bit more about if there's a possible leak or is this thing is, up to snuff on its refrigerant charge for the year? So let's plug this in.
So right now, the outdoor condensing unit is running. It does have a call for air conditioning. Outdoor fan is spinning. Compressor is running. I can hear running. I have my gauges hooked up here. How? Indoor fan is running. Air filter is clean. I can see that there's already been some minor repairs to this outdoor unit in the past, over the last 20 years of of this thing being here.
The mice have just gone to town on this thing. Absolutely gone to town. I see lots of chewed wires. The physically, there's a dead mouse that I'm looking at right now. Capacitor is just rusted. Just beyond belief. Now. What I'm seeing now, after running it for a good five minutes or so, is that my suction line is starting to freeze up. So with a with a blower running a clean air filter and all the registers being open in the house with a suction line that's freezing up and a suction pressure that looks at about 45 psi.
This unit is definitely leaking somewhere. I'd really like to see this number on a day like today. Up at about 60 to 65. See if you can read that number there. I'm sitting at about 45 psi. So I'm going to have to have a discussion with this customer. And see what it would cost to repair this system, as opposed to just replacing this system completely.
