Who else struggles with blurbs? It's like 10000x easier for me to write someone else's blurb than it is to write my own.

omg, I know right??? Blurbs are the bane of my existence! Much easier to help other people with theirs though. Maybe one day it will get easier?

At this stage, it's not even about pushing my own book, I just literally am bad at finding the right words to frame it. Was it Mark Twain who said "I didn't have time to write a short thing so I wrote a long thing instead"? Because that. I didn't want to write a 100 word synopsis, that's why I wrote a 120k word novel instead.

😅 methinks that's when you describe anything about the plot that's NOT fantasy. I love fantasy because you can have literally every other kind of genre in it.

Out of the box solution: 1. Write the review 2. Write the Blurb 3. Procrastinate writing the novel as mush as possible.

🤣 in all seriousness, I decided that since it's easier to blurb someone else's book, maybe it would be easier to write my own blurbs when I haven't written the book yet. Yeah, nope. My book 2 blurb still sucks. And yet, someone in my writing group, who doesn't know anything about the plot of book 2, wrote a pretty good blurb for my sequel. My conclusion: crowdsource blurbs in advance until you get one that everyone thinks is awesome. And THEN write the book.

Um yeah, the thing is you want your readers to be able to succinctly say what your book is about when they tell their friends about it: "Omg, I just read this amazing book, it's about X" so on and so forth.

💯 though it's really interesting to see how readers diverge depending on the pitch. Like, I passed on reading Gideon the Ninth for the longest time because everybody kept telling me "it's lesbian necromancers in space!" If they had told me instead that it's a "locked room murder mystery with necromantic science experiments" I would have been all over it.

😂 Yeeeeeep. I have actually been actively avoiding all mentions of my novel in social situations so I don't have to awkwardly try to explain it. Sometimes when I think it's gonna come up I try really hard to change the subject.

Blurbs are sooooo hard. Definitely helps fo get feedback from alpha/ beta readers. And use a template. And drink. 🍷

I should try drunk blurbing. While it would be crushing for my ego to realize that drunk me can write the blurb better than sober me trying to fully apply my brain, at least it would get done and maybe it wouldn't suck so much.
