3 min of Muzan walking >>> all the talking in the Slime isekai

The reason why Monogatari succeeds with their conversation scenes is cause they are very well directed and visually presented. Meanwhile Slime we look at a still image while they talk. As Megamind once said : "What seperates a Super Villain from a Villain is PRESANTATION".

Great cinematography can indeed increase replay value. When the visuals complements the dialogs in an imaginative way, you tend to miss out on subtext as you pay attention to an aspect over the another. Monogatari may be one of the countless hornyweeb friendly exploitative anime, but it is still executed in a kinectic way. Truly makes me wonder what we'd get if all this creative energy was spent in the right places... Away from target audience's peckers, to change...

@@nozoto We'd get exactly the Monogatari series. But a few other excellent examples would be all the works of Masaaki Yuasa. He is one of best examples of masterful directing that has mastered the usage of visuals in his creative storytelling.

Monogatari has the most pretentious dialogues just to end up with some perv building up a harem.

This felt like an adaptation issue. In novels, everything(action or talking) is words with some illustration & readers can change their speed, so hours of talking is a minor issue. In animation, where you can see that it's all just talking & you can experience the time passing, it's a big issue

Novels are hard to adapt than graphic novels?

@@Joshua_N-A _ Novels are a bit harder to adapt than graphic novels, because graphic novels also have visual(pictures) like a movie/anime so it's one step easier than novels _ It isn't just a difficulty issue. A lot of anime adaptation intentionally tried to be as close to the original work for some reason(my guess is to appeal to fans of the original works) to their detriment(manga have the same time issue as novels)

From what I know,in Monogatari weird stuff happends even when you do simple things Thus making it funny and entertaining to watch Once again,it's not what you do that matters more, but it's how you do it

Re:Zero Season 3 Episode 1 is 90 minutes talking between factions in different times and places in city. (very well paced and directed) with huge cliffhanger ending. then Ep2 onwards is full action. Maybe Slime fans will understand the adaptation problem.

I think I might understand a little bit of why those people are so insistent on defending hours of talking while nothing happens: it might be because they have superficial understanding of what a story is. You know how with mainstream crap normies just want the sakuga and the fights? Some people want to believe they're better than that, they're not just here for the action, so they mistake worthless time wasting filler for meaningful events and storytelling when that's just not what it is, this is why those people will constantly try to tell you that you can only be satisfied with action and you have ADHD or whatever. Here's the thing though, there's a million fucking ways to progress your story, it doesn't at all have to be with dialogue, in fact, there were a lot of old works that told complete stories without a single line of dialogue. So no, "you want fighting" isn't the issue here. Best and easiest way to tell would be to ask yourself: "was event narratively important? Does it move the story forward? Are there any developments that came as a result of this event?", if the answer is no, then this is nothing more than meaningless junk. Or better yet, "can I remove this scene without affecting the plot?" And if the answer is yes, then you know.

Monogatari: dialogue has lots of good visuals and references that keep you paying attention and actually adds a lot of plot that doesn't ruin future episodes Slime isekai: we are literally staring at a meeting room with nothing but a PowerPoint type info dump that is probably telling us exactly what is going to happen because the author is an untalented hack Thats the difference between the two

One thing i know for certain is that if characters are shown coming up with a perfect strategy that accounts for every variable and has 100% chance of success, the strategy will inevitably fail because of some unexpected element that comes in at last minute for the sake of dramatic tension. You shouldn't waste too much time on explaining the strategy if i know it's going to fail, and i know it's going to fail because if it didn't it would be really boring.

All they needed to do was to cut the meeting scenes in half and place plot-moving scenes in between to make it more engaging.

One negative thing about Slime and its talking I would like to add is that it has a bad habit of repeating what was already shown. For example: You have characters coming up with some plan, you read/hear how the plan goes and you see how everything goes exactly as planned... this is just redundant. There is this suggested writing tip that you have two ways how a pre planned action is supposed to be presented: Either you have the character come up with some plan that the audience knows, when put in action it either completely changes or deviates in unforseen ways or you do not let the audience know what the plan is and just show them when put into action. This is done to prevent time wasting, portraying the same thing twice and keep things engaging... This is one the reasons why despite the grand conflicts and subject matters the show has, it just feels too easygoing to be engaged.

I liked some parts in the first two seasons, but this season is painful to just get through. I would enjoy the meeting scenes if the were half as good as the meeting scenes in early game of thrones. The exposition is very dry and pointless.

This work is fictional. Although it contains violent scenes, it is not intended to promote real life criminal behaviour. Your understanding is appreciated.
