Only if the car was manufactured between 1970 and 1979. Outside that range you get a substantial buff... but not full stats To get full buff by decade of manufacture you need to play: 1960 to 1969 Shut down by the beach boys 1970 to 1979 Free bird by Lynrd Sknyrd 1980 to 1989 it would be turbo lover by Judas Priest 1990-1999 life is a -highway by Tom Cochrane 2000 to 2009 - ready steady go - Paul oakenfold 2010 to 2019 - its our fight - Steve Jablonsky 2020 to now - ??? Source - I've owned vehicles manufactured in each of those decades. I had a 1968 suburban - that tired ol' 327 V8 could pull just a bit harder I owned a 1973 Datsun L620 pickup (that bulletside would be worth pretty penny now...) previous owner blew the head gasket. My old man was a machinist - he milled the head and we rebuilt the mill. With tuning that thing was a rocket since decking the head after the head gasket blow upped compression by a fair bit. I had to run her on premium otherwise it would ping like a mother fucker. She ran REAL good on avgas I owned two mk2 VW gtis (an 85 8v, and an 88 16v) i put a built motor that I picked up from a buddy who raced a 16v in auto cross. He wrecked his and didn't need the motor anymore (it was a spare) that thing was pushing 150hp. (Stock was 125 in the US) owned a 1997 drivers edition VW GTI VR6. Didn't mess with it engine wise. Did put it on bilstien coilovers though, bigger sway bars , and added strut bracing, plus a track alignment to tune out the "safe understeer" most FWD cars favor from factory. I had a 2002 VW golf GL. it was a sleeper, i pulled the 8v 2.0l (2.slo) engine and tranny and dropped in the drivetrain from a wrecked Audi TT (not the 180hp 1.8 mill they put in the GTI... the 225hp lump.) Suspension was set up similar to my old jetta. Used to challenge GTI drivers to a drag race for C notes... never gave up a hundy. Currently own a very modded 2017 WRX (that thing makes 330hp at the wheels.) It also is a cop magnet. It's obnoxious, shoots flames. And smells like my old 73 Datsun. Almost forgot what cars are supposed to smell like (exhaust I mean) Only drive that on weekends and evenings. daily Drive a jeep grand cherokee....

To those saying about 10 gears, it has a 6 speed gearbox and you can see him go from 5th to 6th at the end, the movie gets the gears right, it just doesn't show you him downshifting to overtake, as you should do in performance vehicles.
@leonreinert1981
Жыл бұрын
Only problem is that the GT40 had a 4 speed gearbox, so you could say it was from 3rd to 4th but that doesn't make much sense in the oval at that point.

@@leonreinert1981 He was still in third as he powered out of the last curve and took the engine all the way up to about 7800 rpm, 800 over the redline before he put it into 4th. That's what the "7000+ Go Like Hell" meant on the chalkboard. Shelby had faith in both his engine and his driver. The gear ratio on that 4-speed is a lot closer than in a mini-van.
@CTRaptor

That’s not right, to overtake a vehicle you should be in whichever gear you shift up to
@tai-guy6918
Жыл бұрын
@@CTRaptor downshifting brings the revs up higher, which in theory puts you into or ahead of the torque curve and into a higher horsepower range. This gives you the most power to the wheels possible and can increase acceleration, therefore making you overtake faster. Only after you overtake do you shift up, lowering revs, giving you more overhead, you don't need all the acceleration possible once you are already ahead of the taken vehicle.

True story, years ago working in Indianapolis and on the highway we passed a minivan with a Lynard Skynyrd vanity plate. That dude had to have been listening to that same station living his best life.

@Dysan72

If the movie had stuck to just the racing, maybe. As it is there is enough jumping between the pits, and spectators that it wouldn't work. There is actually an interesing dynamic with the tension in the music. It starts building tension in the pits on Shelby as he's making the decision to go for it. Then amping it up when Miles sees the sign and starts racing. But backing off when it cuts back to Shelby, as the pressure is off of him. The decision is done, it's all on Miles now. But even then the Free Bird solo is very much a balls to the wall going for it music. Which is not what Miles is doing. He is pushing it, but is in control, thinking it through, and waiting for his moment. Free Bird is much faster pace, which is great for the Car Vs. Track dynamic. But the race here is more Car vs Car and Driver vs Drive to the relative speed is much slower. And the music in the movie captures that much better. The fact that they are almost 200 mph it is still a slow slog to catch up to the leader. And then the anticipation as he waits for the perfect moment to shift and take the leader (which is also a great call back to the opening race to the movie.)
