My generation raised kids in villages. We knew who the bad kids were but the "neighbors" kept them...in line and watched over all kids until the parents got home. We all played together. These new generations want to be left alone until they get lonely. They want to play only under their/parental consent.....okay but then get mad when none of the others invite them to play. So what! Rejection especially early is how you develop more deeper feelings as an adult and if unchecked can push a child down an unhealthy path. Of course don't do what your kids say, but realistically, when is the last time to LISTENED and responded to what they said, instead of what you ASSUMED they wanted

This is solid knowledge. I be cautious when I go back to my hood to visit family. Im not rich by any means but because of how I dress, speak, the car I drive etc it’s easy to tell that I’m not a regular anymore. It’s crazy to process this too when I lived in the same hood for over 25 years. But I know better, I know how the 15 year old me would look at me and I couldn’t blame him because that was me. Like mans said “they hungry.” The challenge is teaching these men how to feed themselves but being careful that they don’t eat you.
@LadyLeoASMR
Жыл бұрын
I told my son this the other day. You don’t even have to be rich or a celebrity. You left, and it just reality. U can’t do both. Once u leave the hood, it’s not about being soft or scared it’s peace of mind. U don’t go back. To visit, to events, to your favorite chicken spot… u don’t! The one that still have that hunger to get it however will do whatever. That’s how I move. I’m from Brooklyn NY no matter where I go, live, etc. I do not need to live there. It’s growth.

No disrespect and not to be all pro black preachy but I think some of the issue has to do with us calling each other Niggas....I understand we use it as a term of endearment for our generation but I overstand now as i got older why are ancestor were so against using it. The legacy and history of dehumanizing another person thru that word can never be erased and in some contexts we as black folk can perpetuate that same disdain and disregard when we say nigga. In a sense we devalue each other when we say that. And then normalize the self destructive language by distancing ourselves with sayings like niccas die everyday.

The goal is and should be too always strive to get out of poverty; however, you should also plan to come back to help out others who didn't make it out. The problem is brothers usually come back flossin and showing up those very folks that supported you getting out. The only way to come back and be accepted is to give back too your community in a humbling way with gratitude for all the tough love and support that very hood showed you and inspired in you!

Doesn’t if you’re flossing or not they still will kill you.

No sir, I beg to differ. I went back in 2010 and almost lost my life and finances dealing with people who never ate on their own. I didn’t mind treating people to anything but when I was assaulted and robbed by those same people it destroyed me mentally. (Loan me this, can I have that…) I am in my 12th year of weekly counseling. I donate to charities and go to events but I stay away from the hood. Specifically Engle wood. Chicago south side

@@Hollygdorsey1 I'm from the hood myself but you would never know because my actions and how I go about life doesn't show it. I learned the hard way thru experiences that the hood got no love for you once you make something of yourself or have any success. The goal is to make it out don't look back period.

You can only help those that want to head in the same direction you're heading in. You don't have to be flossing for the grimy crowd to plot on you, or just end up hating you for certain things that you didn't ask for. A wolf's woman that he treats like trash may be eying you. He may feel he has to bring it to you because his feelings are hurt.

Growing up we had OGs and real big homies that made it a point to let us know that the goal is to make it out of the hood, not stay there doing and seeing the same shit year after year. We were also taught to take care of home once you make it out, buying property and creating generational wealth goes a long way for your community. This is how you get real street cred as a grown man or woman who came from nothing.
