My dad (Earl "Dutch" Reibel) was the centre between Howe and Lindsay on the opening face off. Dad had a few stories about the concerns he and the other Red Wing players had going in but in the end it went well.

During the 2004-05 season I played for the Soo Indians in the NAHL and we also went to a prison to play a game with the prisoners. I remember all the boys were a little nervous, but it was a good time. I wonder if this is where our team got the idea from.

It likely is. The Detroit Red Wings used the Pullar arena as their summer training arena from 1947 until 1956. It was one of the first arenas with year round ice. The Wings played many exhibition games vs the Indianapolis capitals (I think that was their name). They also came across to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where I am to have a game or two. (I can see the pullar from my backyard lol)

Greetings from Trenton N.J. I'm 57 and have been a Detroit Red Wings fan since age 8 when I seen the "Winged wheel logo" and I been a die hard fan ever since! I suffered through the 70's & 80's to finally be rewarded for my patience in the 90's when my Red Wings became Stanley Cup champions more than one time and back to back Champs as well! This historic game should most definitely be made into a movie, and I know that any true fan of hockey will agree 👍

1. There are movies like this, but it was always guards vs inmates. 1974’s “The Longest Yard”, as well as its 2005 remake, were about American football. In 2001 a British adaptation called “Mean Machine” was released. It was about ⚽️ 2. Please do a video about the time The NY Rangers went to a small town in Alaska for against the local semi-pro team

I met Ted Lindsay at of all places a health food store in Livonia MI when he was in his 80's. He looked fantastic and couldn't have been any friendlier. All the Red Wings of that era were legends in the Detroit area and they were all notoriously down to earth and approachable including the great number 9 Gordie Howe. They've all passed on now but they will live on forever in the hearts of the Detroit sports fans. I enjoyed this video immensely. Thank you for making it.

Yeah, it's kind of baffling how he continues to be a revered figure in the league. He singlehandedly tore down the 1950s Wings dynasty and soured relationships between the organization and several Wings legends. The best thing you can say about him is he was slightly over .500 as a coach.
