I broke down crying doing this in 4th grade. We were presenting story of the most fun days of our life. I was a poor kid at a rich school. Everyone had stories about vacations to other countries and mine was getting to see my grandma who lived across the state on my birthday. I was too embarrassed to present on top of already being shy. @Louis Kingsta exactly. I don't have social anxiety but I do have the habit of thinking twice of almost everything that I'm about to say because I'd get so mindful of what I'm about to say is going to make sense, not sound offensive, or just not stupid when it comes out. At times when I do, at some point, not think twice of what I'm about to say and say something that doesn't make sense I'd get really bad reactions from ppl teasing what I just said, or choice of words/vocabulary. Ppl, please don't be dickheads and have a bit of consideration, I'm really trying

I hate public speaking, but I’ve gotten better with practice. I remember back in college, we had a group presentation, and one girl in my group seemed so bubbly and outgoing in class. Once it was presentation time she got so nervous she couldn’t finish her part. Luckily I prepared the slides and took over for her without making it obvious. I felt so bad for her, it’s literally the worst feeling. And once you start to get nervous, the worse it gets cause you think everyone is judging.

I remember when I was in 9th grade, we had to give an oral and written book report. When it was my turn to do my report, I was so nervous, shaking, and sweating. I froze when I got in front of the class. Then, I said, it was a really good book, and ran out of the classroom, and ran to the bathroom, and locked myself in a stall, for the rest of the period. I got a 0 on my oral report, but, a 95, on my written report. I'm nearly 43, and, to this day, it still makes me feel the same way, about speaking in front of people.

advice to students presenting as a senior: 1) always no your material by heart. just look at it, understand it, try and make some words out of it so when you go up you feel confident in what you’re saying. 2) don’t worry about being nervous. everyone and i mean EVERYONE is nervous. take comfort in the fact that nobody is really worried about your presentation. they’re only worried about their own. 3) never act like you’re nervous. sit there all calm and shit. just psych yourself out by acting like you’re not worried, you’re not nervous. and tell yourself repeatedly i’ll be fine. 4) when you go up just speak clearly and follow a simple pattern when speaking: look left to right then back at the slide so you can read it. don’t do the motions too fast and don’t speak super fast. try some hand simple explanatory hand movements to “act” or act like you know what you’re talking about. even if you’re wrong the teachers will give you something for good speaking/presenting. 5) finally if you ever get an option on when to go never be first or last or behind someone who absolutely hit it out of the park. look at some examples, take some mental notes then go up and be yourself. just some tips. i’ve got to do a speech like right after i get back from winter break 😭

The best way I've found to overcome anxiety is to take interest in your topic the best you can. It makes it easier to speak about it since you've found something about it, even if it's something small that actually interests you. It also helps to memorize what you will be saying until you feel comfortable enough to walk up there without note cards. It takes alot to overcome anxiety and you may still be anxious before your speech but if you are proud of the speech youve come up with to present it actually feels worse not giving it your all despite your anxiety. It sucks more to ruin something your actually proud of. I've had teachers tell me I had the best speech in the class, meanwhile no one was aware I was probably the most afraid of speaking 🤣. It's also best to go first while everything is fresh in your mind. Waiting or going last just build up the anxiety even more and makes you second guess yourself. You'll start overthinking it and quickly become your biggest critic and worst enemy.

The overwhelming feeling of having everyone just stare at you is so nerve wracking, and then when people start murmuring in the back but you cant make out what they're saying so you jump to the conclusion that they're judging which just worsens the nervousness, then the teacher is constantly on your ass criticizing how you're presenting, and then when you think you're all done the teacher asks questions about your presentation instead of letting you just sit back down in your damn seat just sucks. In conclusion class, I hate public speaking, and yea that's pretty much it.

I’ve never liked public speaking but I was never bad at it so I just winged all my projects which put a LOT more unnecessary pressure on😂 heart goes out to the students who fr were bad at it and were embarrassed when doing this type of stuff, keep y’all’s heads up💛
