Naturally, most people don't realise that Japan is the third biggest economy tight after US and China. But they'd be restricted by their own population and landmass. Even if the SDF had a much larger budget, it's unlikely their military would grow over 500,000.

And they're a relatively major power, too. The JMSDF and JASDF are on par with even the best second-tier forces such as the RN, RAF, Marine Nationale, and Armee de l'Air -- and they have the economy to support a substantially larger navy and air force, although population limits just how much they could expand their ground forces even if they wanted to.
This video made me grind the Japanese tech tree in War thunder lol Now i have 4 Type-74 and some jet along with helis Nice video inspired Edit May 13 2024 i been stuck at 10.0 for the whole 3 months rip

Went to JDAFB Misawa for a "deployment," JSDF F-16 pilots do aerobatics over the base... it is so fucking sweet. Just walked around a building and theres an f-16, doing barrels then pulling a steep climb in to the clouds. I'll never forget it. (It's an F-2, we know. Nobody is impressed by your knowledge, or relieved that it was made available. Also, if you haven't flown or worked on a F-16.. but you are correcting me on nomenclature, maybe we should have a more extended conversation so we can see if you know anything about the aircraft that isn't published on wikipedia).

The Japanese military, like many parts of Japanese society, has a lot in common with many of its western allies, some things good, some bad. The JSDF Army shares a lot with it's western European contemporaries, specifically, that it's severally underfunded, yet filled with well trained, capable personnel. Like Britain, Japan has neglected its army, resulting in a relatively small and underequipped, yet still enthusiastic, military force. Also like Britain, this makes sense, seeing as Japan is an island nation that doesn't need or want to engage in land conflict abroad. However, because the Japanese army is so understrength, it would be difficult for Japan to quickly arm itself in the case of a war. The Japanese navy however, is a different story. The JSDF Navy is perhaps the one of the best in the world, being one of the largest in the world. Boasting 154 ships, 346 aircraft and 50,800 personnel, the Japanese Navy is legitimately really capable, and seeing as Japan is an island nation that has to live next to China and Russia, that naval power comes in handy. Navally, Japan can really throw its weight around, but generally doesn't because it doesn't need, nor wants to. However, with the United States growing less interventionist and more inward focused, we might see the Japanese take a more active role in patrolling the pacific, as in the coming decades, the US might lose interest in doing so. The JSDF Air Force, like the navy, is decently capable, albeit somewhat small and nearly entirely defensively oriented. Boasting 740 aircraft and about 50,000 personnel, the Japanese Air force is tiny compared to its Yankee and Chinese counterparts, but with a decent number of advanced aircraft, the Japanese would at least have a fighting chance if they were attacked. In conclusion, the Japanese armed forces, like most western militaries, are filled with advanced equipment and well trained personnel. However, also like most modern militaries, their armed forces are rather small, owed mostly to them being severally underfunded, and ignored in favor of social programs. With China and Russia both becoming desperate due to their looming internal problems, and with the US taking a less active role in global politics, Japan has to wake up and fill the vacuum that America will leave behind, as their the only ones that can.
@turtles3240

dumbass they don't have a military cause they aren't allowed to by US imposed law, we are their military in the case of invasion, they also have the defense force but they're meant for just that, just defense, not long scale warfare as an army is, they don't need or deserve a military.
