So she has the right to remain silent and ANYTHING she says WILL be used AGAINST her! I'm a retired LCSW who did many, many evaluations at county jails and in ER's. This police lieutenant did an excellent job with this woman, displaying empathy, understanding, and patience. The reason she pauses for so long after some questions is that voices are telling her not to answer, likely telling her that he is trying to trick her or cause her harm in some way. This woman is obviously smart, well-spoken and educated. Mental illness can strike anyone. I hope she can find a medication that she tolerates, because if her illness is controlled, she can have a happy and productive life. I also hope her boyfriend takes the time and makes the effort to learn about these types of thought disorders and doesn't abandon her due to her illness. My heart goes out to her.

My heart goes out to those impacted by her illness. My heart goes out to her and her family. This is a woman who has really made a life for herself, against all odds. I didn't have to worry for 40+ years and it wasn't my son but my husband took his own life. He suffered from severe PTSD after serving 3 tours in Afghanistan. I lived in fear everyday of my life that he would either take his own life or my life and his life. It was one of the hardest things to do and live with. He completely lost it one day and had me by my throat but I knew it wasn't him. This wasn't the man I married. He use to keep me up all hours of the night pacing the bedroom floor questioning me about EVERYTHING! He was so paranoid about stuff that didn't even make since. I was getting maybe 2 hours of sleep at the most. Anyway, I said that to say this: I will never forget what the deputy said to me that day. He said "It's ok to be relieved that it's over but sad and heart broken at the same time that he's gone". As soon as he said that I lost it. Because he was right, the thought kept crossing my mind that it was finally over. I no longer had to wonder if this was going to be the day I came home and he was d*ad or if he was going to unalive me. We didn't live that way for 44+ years, it was only almost 5 years.

It's like waiting for a train to hit you. You live in stress and fear every day and when the worst finally happens there is overwhelming grief but also some relief. Many people don't want to talk about that. In my heart I know she's safe now and can't be hurt or hurt herself. It may not make sense to others but that's how it feels to me.

Sadly our world is still not fully prepared to take care of those who need medication. And because of such inability to afford care & the meds they need. In the absence of finances they become more like a wild card. Its so sad because they are at the mercy of a system that is just now facing its responsibilities to such people in need.

@revekat2053

Thought blocking is a symptom of schizophrenia that can cause people to suddenly stop thinking, speaking, or moving in response to their surroundings. It can manifest as a person interrupting themselves mid-sentence, pausing for seconds or minutes, and then forgetting what they were saying. When they start speaking again, they may change the topic of conversation or have difficulty resuming what they were saying. Episodes can last from a few seconds to over an hour, and people with schizophrenia may interpret the experience in unusual ways.

So sad. I've never seen an interrogation like this before where someone has intentionally hurt people but is seemingly a victim of her own brain. If only more could be done to help sufferers of these kinds of mental illnesses. Repeated hospitalisations don't seem to help much, and medications seem inadequate and often cause horrible side effects. If only there was a cure to alleviate such suffering and to keep people safe from harming themselves and being a danger to others.
