In this week's podcast episode, I'm discussing about a topic that hits close to home-dealing with change in business. Now, let's be honest, we all love the idea of growth and progress, but when it comes to change, it can really throw us off balance, can’t it? The truth is, change is inevitable, and whether you're running a landscaping business or doing something completely different, learning to embrace it is key.
I start by talking about why resistance to change is so common. It’s human nature to stick with what’s comfortable, but the problem with that is you end up staying stuck. I’ve experienced this firsthand in both my businesses and personal life. I used to hold on tight to routines and systems, thinking, "If it ain't broke, why fix it?" But when you hold on too tightly, you miss out on opportunities that could really take things to the next level.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that sometimes, change comes from the outside-maybe it’s the market shifting, a new competitor popping up, or even something as simple as a client wanting something different. Whatever it is, you have to be ready to adapt. It's all about mindset, right? Keeping an open mind and being ready to pivot can mean the difference between staying ahead or falling behind. And trust me, I know how hard it can be to get out of your comfort zone.
Now, I don’t just talk about business here. I bring this back to personal growth, too. You know I’m into bodybuilding, and prepping for competitions has taught me so much about change and how to handle it. Whether it’s changing my training routine, diet, or even how I handle my rest days, I've had to make adjustments constantly to keep moving forward. It’s about recognising that change doesn’t have to be scary-it can be a powerful tool for growth.
I also share some really useful tips on how to make change easier to manage. It’s all about planning, being flexible, and having clear goals. You’ll hear me talk a lot about goal setting, but that’s because it’s so important. If you don’t have a clear idea of where you’re heading, then change will feel like chaos. When you know your goals, you can break them down and see how change can fit into the bigger picture.
I want to leave you with this thought: Change is going to happen whether you’re ready for it or not. The key is how you respond to it. Will you resist it and let it hold you back, or will you embrace it and let it propel you forward? At the end of the day, growth is about moving through change, not avoiding it. So, let's stop fighting it and start working with it.
