That’ll be a nice spot this fall. Putting my brassicas in this week (rain is on the way). We have work to do to create hidey holes….next years plan. Thanks for the insight. Good luck this season.

Does the same burn and spread seed application work with the April-May summer plot? Peas and summer seeds won't come up on bare ground, will they?
@GrowingDeerTV

Beans and peas are much larger seed than what most folks broadcast. However, if folks get successful crops with these species by broadcasting. This depends on the soil type, timing and quantity of rain, soil temperature, etc. Some folks terminate the fall crop, broadcast the larger-sized seed, then mow or weedeat the standing dead crop as a cover for the broadcast seed.

Do you still have to adjust pH with lime when you plant with the release method?
@GrowingDeerTV
Жыл бұрын
Justin - I don't. Decaying plant material (the roots and material left on top the soil) is basic (a higher pH) so the pH will balance over time. I haven't added any lime in 10+ years! Adding lime can speed up the process in some areas, but there's still negatives such as the weight of spreading lime causes soil compaction.

Do use just regular oats to seed these hide hole food plots

No - I plant blends from GreenCoverFoodPlots.com. I strongly prefer blends over single species. Blends will produce more tonnage and work better in a wider range of soils!

At my place turkeys and squirrels consume seed quickly if it doesn't get wet and start to germinate.
