Good advice there mate, I'm fishing Loch lomond at the weekend ( think it's 500ft deep in parts!!) So ill definitely not be surface fishing unless I see bait fish scattering. That advice alone could save me hours of fishing with no rewards.

Hi Thom Great content! What’s your thoughts on replacing trebles to single hooks on crankbaits Do they work differently etc ? Also your thoughts on going barbless? Going to fish Derwent water next week and it’s preferred to use barbless hooks. Thanks
@Thomhuntfishing
2 жыл бұрын
Hi James sorry for the delay. I don’t have a problem with going barbless or crushing the barbs on trebles on cranks but have never tried singles before. I know a few chaps that do, especially for chub and perch but just be aware that if you swap hooks to lighter singles it may affect the balance or buoyancy of the crankbait

Good stuff as always 💪🎉 I have problems catching during the hot summer days. During night or early in the morning I had more success. What are your experience?
@Thomhuntfishing
3 жыл бұрын
Yep I’ve found when very hot in summer they feed really hard at first and last light when it’s a bit cooler and in the middle of the day are VERY inactive which is tough fishing. Best bet is usually to fish reaction style baits in the middle of the day, check out my last video for tips on that 👍🏻

Another great vid Thom. What lures would you pick for a multi Predator species approach on English rivers like the Bristol Avon. Ie lures that would catch both Perch and Pike.
@Thomhuntfishing
3 жыл бұрын
My fist pick would be a paddle tail soft plastic in 3”-4”. Great all rounder that will catch everything, pike, perch, chub zander etc. Also don’t forget something like a 5cm crankbait, or some kind of spinner or Spinnerbait…. Often overlooked but some of the best all round lures out there 👌

Hi Thom, do you have any advice for turning perch follows into takes? Was fishing a small crankbait yesterday and 3-4 perch would follow it in but only got a few takes
@Thomhuntfishing
2 жыл бұрын
Yep this happens a lot in warm water. Biggest mistake is to pause as they normally swim right up to it then when the bait stops they lose interest! 100% the best thing to do is speed your retrieve up. If you whiz it past them quick they won’t follow, they’ll either hit it immediately or they won’t! If that brings no success then select a bait that will dig in to the bottom, that’s a brilliant way of getting fish to commit to the bait. By the way just seen your question was from 4 months ago so was from July/August time. Those tips above won’t really work now in winter, they’re warm water tricks!

Hi Thom, could you do a video on how to turn follows into bites because most of the time when im fishing for perch they will follow it for about 4 seconds and then swim away like their not bothered anymore. it seems like a lot of other people have the same problems any advice would be really helpful :)🎣🎣

Hi Thom, Can i ask you, where would you search for pike on a lake, now when water is very warm (around 20 celcius or higher) with very clear water (over 6ft visability). I don't have fishfinder, so looking for baitfish is very hard,. And also i can only fish during day from 9am to 8pm. it's smoking hot. I enjoy time on water, but it would be nice to find some baits :D I use big 22cm shadteez, and similar shads, (bullteez etc) in natural colours/sometimes bright ones. Fishing them slow, fast, none of them gave me a bite even jerkbaits don't work. I think that problem is in the place I'm fishing. usually during spring and autumn those spots hold some nice pikes, but now i can't get any of them. Your's videos are awesome, i managed to beat my PB in perch since adapted to your tips :) PS. Any tips when to change lure color or lure type, and when to change spot? I usually throw every lure on one spot, and then change spot, but that makes me fish only two spots a day, maybe 3 spots.

The majority of my fishing is on my local canal which is don't think is very deep at all. Pretty much all the zander I've caught have been in the near margin which is generally only 2 or 3 foot deep. When float fishing I know you can plumb the depth, but how do you do normally find the depth on canals when lure fishing?
@Thomhuntfishing
3 жыл бұрын
Usually by ‘counting down’ with a jig head (obviously changes slightly depending on size of jig head etc) but try to find a jig lure combo that falls at 1ft per second then if it’s a count of 5 from lure hitting the water to braid going slack (when lure hits the bottom) then you know it’s about 5ft deep for example. Either that or using crankbaits that I know dive to 3ft, 6ft, 10ft etc if I do/don’t touch bottom with them I can work the depth out 👍🏻

I went yesterday and caught a pike (fishing for perch lol) but it was a fish and stopped a third blank in a row 🤷♂️ ... I tried neds but couldn't seem to have proper confidence in them. Ended up sticking a 7cm shad on and once the sun started lowering I started getting plucks then the bite from a pike. One question if you see this... "what the best way to fish a snaggy weir pool sort of plsce" the water is rushing in super fast and when I cast my jig near it just gets pulled allover by the current and ends up snagging on somat. Was a nightmare but I know there's big perch around. I'm thinking of using a heavier jig head? I only had 5g and 7g with me. Oh and I seen a big fish jump up the waterfall running into the canal!! It was nuts.. I was in a canal and the water was rushing in from river aire I believe. Think its was a underground duct of some sort. I was at aire calder navigation i believe. Its where the river meets canal. Surely a trout? Have you known trout ever be in a canal? Mayb it was trying to get out lol.

Hi Tom I want to fish for chubb with lures on my local river , any tips please
@Thomhuntfishing
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, in the summer time my favourite way is to catch them on surface lures. Small ‘cicada’ style lures with small wings, or small poppers work really well. Alternatively small crankbaits are great. Shallow runners that only go from 1-3ft are usually best 👍🏻
