Very nice Video Huw,I have two types of Potatoes. One is the Potatoes from last year and some of these were left in the ground and resprouted .So I just left them in the ground after arranged them in rows again and they do not have flowers, these are Coleen and earlies and are Blight resistant. The other type are main crop blight resistant and are Richill and they are flowering away nicely. So I might dig up some Coleens to see if they have grown much ,and use these first then start on the Richill later. Thank you you have answered what I wanted to know. Nth Dublin Ireland.

Your comment was the last one I had a look at before going to bed! Well if it's hot and dry the leaves can get sub burnt from the hot sun but plants wilt at different times with out enough water. She should make sure that the soil does not go dry for over a days length and if she can, water them regulory but the potatoes will not be ready or if they are very small and possibly slighty inedible, if you know any more details please ask! Thanks

Good tip. I had to harvest my potatoes early because they were dying off about a month ago. The potatoes that we got were very small as a result (smaller than the baby potatoes you can get). But nevertheless they still tasted good! :D

I wait until the plant starts to yellow out then I stop watering it for a week. I grow mine in bags so I can see them pushing out of the sides of the bags. Once the soil is dry I harvest them or just leave them in the bags until I want to eat them.

No it's only if a potato is green usually caused by sunlight. I eat loads of potatoes and it's a guide. I'm not trying to poison anyone. But there is a wild plant that can be mistaken for a potato and can cause death. Thanks for watching!

I don't think I used big enough containers, I seen towers and everything. I see you mentioned food grade barrels In the comment - I'll use them next year...I can't tell you the size (maybe send pic to you somewhere?) to give you an idea - one is a family laundry basket - the taller ones and one of those big totes from walmart that most people use for Christmas decorations - guess it's a wait and see year. most of what I have planted is failing - colder longer this year and I swear it's raining here as much as it does In Seattle!

James Tucker no, they grow into a fruit, something like a tomato, but don’t eat it! If you want to grow more potatoes, plant one of the ones you harvest. Let it develop eyes or sprout and you’re good to plant.

+John Renowden Hi John, flowers are a sign that they can be harvested, you can leave them in the ground but have a chance of blight especially in the UK if not growing varieties like the Sarpo family. Especially for new and first earlies, it is tastier to harvest them sooner. For main crop leave 4-6 weeks after flowering and they will become jackets. Best wishes
