I used a belt for the first time today and it kept pinching my hip fat or digging into my pelvic bones... so, definitely a learning curve. I was actually looking for videos/guides while I was at the gym so this was very timely!

Thanks! This was one of the best videos I’ve seen on breathing and lifting technique. The explanations were so clear! Can you explain when and why you should have the shoulders down and back and to what degree? Is this to maintain proper shoulder and back posture similar to engaging your core to maintain proper lower back posture? Would love your expertise on this.

Thank you! Glad you liked it. Form cues are going to be different for each movement. I recommend looking at my channel for my how to videos (like how to squat, deadlift, etc.) for more specific form cues and posture.

Addition to the Pelvic Floor topic: anyone with a uterus can also really benefit from learning pelvic floor training. I have endo and learning PV training helped my period pain and lifts haha

Yes it’s very important for women to learn how to strengthen their pelvic floor, but I’ve also heard the advice given to men. So it’s beneficial for everyone.

This was so helpful! I've been lifting for about 7 years now without a belt but now I feel like I actually "know what I'm doing" and actually know how to brace for lifts now so I'm going heavier and heavier these days and kinda getting to the point of, can I still brace my core under this load? Yes, but only properly for 3 of these 5 reps. My legs can move it but my core is fatigued, maybe I should slap a belt on for a little support to get those last 2 reps without sacrificing form

Thanks. I do like the Velcro belt idea to get the exact right size. I tried using a community belt at my gym and one set of holes was too big and I couldn’t bra rat all and the the next size hole down was a bit too tight digging in under my ribs. Even without a belt I rarely do heavyweight because of concerns of pissing myself.
@Megsquats

I've seen velcro belts come off when squatting - got to keep them in good condition. Pioneer have brought out a leather belt where the bottom row of holes are between the positions of the top row of holes - so there's only half an inch of tightening to do compared to previously an inch when both rows of holes were in line with each other.

Question for you. Wondering if I should wear a belt or no. I’m not a power lifter at all, I train for fun/health but only do weight lifting. I try to be very conscious on my form while doing RDL but somehow I keep injuring my lower back every 3-4 weeks. I’m only doing 90lbs RDL and don’t wanna go higher cause I feel like the pressure/weight goes straight to my lower back when I put on more weight. Now that I know how to properly use a belt (thanks to you vid) , do you think it could help at all? At least to make sure I keep a good form and get the load off my lower back?
