I ride and I'm a tanker yanker. I always try and wave people on when I'm on "fun roads" then again sometimes I hit the hazards and slow down only to have someone pass me.. right into the problem. Deer, slow truck and even a cyclist. Sometimes people forget that our ass sits 8ft off the ground... we see much more than you do. We also get paid by the mile, we want to go fast also.. it's in our best interest. But killing people that cut us off looks bad on a resume.

Got tired of the bike and my wife... took the berm. Went 15-20mph, got my temp down a little when a trucker hooked his horn to let me know there was a statey about 4 semis up. I once was driving back from university and a pickup truck brake checked an 18 wheeler (I'm not sure why he was mad at the 18 wheeler), and the 18 wheeler, who obviously cannot decelerate quickly, had to swerve and the truck nearly tipped over. It was on two wheels for a good second and the driver and the people in cars around could have easily been killed or seriously hurt. I can't say that I'm comfortable driving beside big rigs. When one of those tires detonate, it sounds like an anti-tank gun letting loose. Shook my half-ton truck a football field back, and visibly bounced the trailer. I doubt that automotive bodywork can reliably stop the tire shrapnel.

Then don't put yourself where they can't see you. Scared drivers around trucks are the worst. They put everyone in danger, usually the same people unaware of how their driving is affecting everyone else on the road. Drive smart, drive safe, and if someone needs space, give it to them!

In tight situations I usually try to stay away from semi trucks just because of the difficult maneuverability. In city/country driving there’s just too much that could go wrong. But if you’re on the highway and you stay in a center lane with room to move over if necessary, the safest place to be is right next to a semi truck. Just obviously stay out of their blind spots.

They do it all the time where I'm from, even if you don't do anything to deserve it. I like to think they're nice, and they almost always drive politely, but at the same time they're usually driving a vehicle owned by someone else, full of cargo owned by someone else, and they probably don't want some dickhead riding their ass where they literally can't even see them so they just let people pass as a rule unless they have no choice. Honestly I do the same thing, a lot of people will get 1 car length behind you and not even realize how annoying or reckless they're being.

Semi trucks cannot accelerate nor brake as fast as I can. When I see one in front of me, regardless of the lane either of us are in, I gave them room to move over until there is a safe place to pass in a lawfual fashion, and this includes flooring it to get far enough ahead of them to prevent them from slowing down while I am merging into traffic. Too many drivers are so damn concerned about getting where they need to go that there is a disconnect between the brain and body. I've at times made it a point to slow all traffic on my right and those on my ass to give a trucker a chance to get going without a collision due to a clueless and anal motorist.

It's called trucker etiquette. Most are like this because we're driving the biggest and therefore the most dangerous vehicles on public streets. We have a responsibility to drive carefully to protect other road users. If we collide with a car, what might be a fender bender for our trucks could result in serious injuries or death for the car occupants. Besides, excessive tickets and points on our license can be very expensive. It could raise our insurance rates, possibly get us fired and also might prevent us from getting future jobs. No trucking company is going to hire a driver with a bad driving record. I once got a speeding ticket in California (the speed limit for trucks is 55mph statewide) on this particular stretch of road it was 45mph but it was out in farm country and the road had almost zero traffic so i got a little carried away. Anyway I got busted for going 9 mph above the limit, cost me $800! Did you know moving violations for trucks are considered felonies in California? So my point is as truckers we have to be careful, our jobs and your lives depend on it.

Id like to think motorcyclists and trucks have an unspoken bond honestly. Ive always had trucks move slightly to one side of a lane to let me filter through as well as I always make space for them if they need to merge. Most of them know letting us through will make it safer for the both of us as we wont be stuck in their blindspot not knowing where we are

As a rider myself, something I've learned... There is a comrade rid between truckers and bikers, the smallest vehicles on the roads and the biggest ones. I've been saved by speeding vehicles by a big rig blasting their air horn on two occasions, getting everyone's attention. One even took a hit for me once. Empty flatbed vs the minivan that would have flattened me. By the same token, I've put my pipes (gotta love that rumbling Harley) to use on a number of occasions, usually to get the attention of the guy doing 50 in left lane to MOVE THE HELL OVER so the truck (and myself) can get by. Big truck, big heart.
