I like what he says at the end. I think people believe that the dog should automatically behave the way they expect because they are entitled or expect the privilege of having a well behaved dog. But it is like any respect- it needs to be earned. This is why there is no “magic pill” for dog training.

Note he says "we're not entitled", so keep working at it, all the time, just like you would a toddler. You don't stop training a child just because she's found her feet, you keep at it, all of the time, (forever). Good luck. It will be worth it.

A recall should NEVER take that long to teach. I had a solid recall within a week. But then again I used a long lead and layered in an e collar. My dog has the ultimate freedom off leash.

Wild statement from a “dog trainer” that we’re not entitled to our dog coming when called, the most basic of obedience he tells you it’s ok if your dog blows you off outside. Enjoy folks. Take your tips from this guy 😂

“Entitled to” is not the same as “should have”. Your dog does not owe you a recall in an environment that has distractions that are more rewarding than you. However, the point is to try and teach them to respond in those situations anyways.

@@EW-ed6kd I have always taught recall in a very different way to this trainer.. from the youngest age after my other puppies have left for their new homes.. my own puppy is out the next day!.. I never use long leads, always off lead from the earliest time... they just naturally follow you!.. building that up each day, from the earliest moment, they are taught to look for you!.. not me constantly calling their names!!.. I had 9 dogs at one time, (I did show dogs.), and every one of them would stay close to me without leads, when walking them.. food was not their reason to stay near me!..

You think the average dog owner will go through with even half of this? All you teach owners is, “How to slowly, unreliably, barely train your dog. All taught practiced and taught by you(just another dog owner) that does the same slow, unreliable, crappy training all whilst posing to be a dog trainer.

And it's HIS dog!!!😂😂😂 But you REALLY expect people to take you seriously??!! The ONLY people I could suspect taking you "seriously" are people who have never owned dogs or people who are incompetent. This comment MUST be from my daughter. If not, I apologize… I turned her onto you yesterday after watching your recall/leash walking video and sharing it with her. She works SO hard (with Endo) and has since getting him. She has worked with multiple trainers and is bound and determined to not go the negative reinforcement (firm yanking correction,e-collar, etc) route although at times she’s gotten close to succumbing but after watching your video she feels horribly about even considering those options. Is there anything else (advice, direct communication, etc) you can offer? And if so, how are these things arranged?

Please for the love of god direct her to a good balanced trainer. The proof is always in the pudding. It should under no circumstances take 1 year to recall train a dog. Why has she worked with multiple trainers? One decent one should suffice, or were they all positive only?

A few things. #1. found out this was not my daughter’s question. Although she’d love to speak with the owner of that Brittany as they are so prey driven. #2 They are a military family and move often therefore sometimes 0:50 necessitating different trainers. And #3 yes, all positive reinforcement trainers.

The people in the comments who don’t know what “entitled to” means is shocking 😅 No, you are not entitled to a recall in an environment that the dog finds more exciting than you. You dog does not owe you a recall. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean that you can’t teach it or that you shouldn’t.
