Bro music teachers do not let you get away with not playing unless you absolutely can’t. “Your wrist is broken and you can’t play your violin? Practice the fingerings.” “The bridge of your cello shattered because somebody tripped in it? Get the Frankenstein school cello that might be missing a string and that nobody wants to play or attempt to tune” (the cello one was indeed personal)

me reading this in astonishment that your schools could afford one cello, let alone a few and then one that can sort of go spare. I had to take a small loan to buy my first clarinet as a lad How the other half lived when they were 12 years old! I can imagine the kinds of elitist, stuffy teachers you got in environments like that we had one bass guitar and one acoustic guitar - both were nearly 20yrs old because they were the music teacher's personal instruments - I say music teacher, but he was on the salary of a teacher's aid because the facility couldn't afford another teacher.
