Direction of electric current is usually indicated from plus to minus current source. However, in wires made of metal, the only charge carriers are electrons, and electrons, as tend to positively charged particles. Therefore, the electric current in the conductors is actually from minus to plus. But the current direction was taken at a time when such phenomena were little studied. In gases and liquids there is no crystal lattice inherent in all metals, therefore both electrons and positive and negative ions can move in them, therefore the current direction in gases and liquids can differ from that in conductors.
