If he can't accomplish that by stealth, he'll do it by caving in your skull with something heavy and blunt, or some similar brute force means. I’m an American and love manual. I drove it for 20 years straight. When I go to Italy every summer to visit family I always rent a car. When I go to the counter to rent it, the rental agent says, “sorry, we only have manuals to rent, taxi cabs are in the other terminal” I just laugh and say, “yea, I prefer a manual”. Some agents are shocked when I drive away without stalling. I’m sad that manuals are disappearing in the US!!

"Back in my day, if you wanted to go fast, you got a manual! Both 'cause they were mechanically faster, and you could actually 'drive' the car! Not like these new-fangled dual-clutch 8-speeds you have today on cars that practically drive themselves! If you wanted to beat somebody, YOU had to match those revs, time those shifts, and bang through those gears - not a computer! I said something like that for real once. Then I realized I had actually criticisized a newer, better technology BECAUSE it was newer and better and praised the old tech for its virtue of being less convenient and more of a hassle. And I prefer the obsolete tech over the undeniably superior new tech for no reason other than it's what the cool kids 'back in my day' used and I stubbornly believe what went on in the car culture when I was growing up is the absolute only right way to do it. I don't care if high performance autos and CVTs are objectively faster - sports cars need manuals. Made me realize I'm getting old. BACK IN MY DAY WE ONLY HAD 151 POKEMON, Fast and the Furious didn't have flying cars, and we drove manuals at our boy-racer meets DARNIT! And I wore an onion on my belt; which was the style at the time.
@charlesc.9012

I feel they will not stop using manual anytime soon. Old manual cars are mechanically simpler, and can be serviced and overhauled in third world countries with little difficulty. Newer technologies are still immature and complicated and thus less reliable with frequent sensor problems, and over-reliance on computers and complex technologies will have an adverse impact in supply and repair. With current events, people should notice these issues in time. It is almost like right to repair is getting itself put out with the extreme complexity of favored products. If you wanted the right, you should use it frequently instead of getting lazy and unknowingly handing the right to someone else, because that would be too late. It is almost like the like of Chavez did not succeed because of this very reason. The cost is lower, unless you live in Hong Kong. This is a big deal because most of the world is not enthusiastic about dumping extra expense into something, and most actually cannot afford the extra cost. IMO the manual car is a great liberator of the people behind scooters, and the very reason that they were is their unique trait of economy and simplicity that is something difficult to replace. Even more so when against EVs in their current form, because just the lithium had to travel around the world multiple times, and only Japan among a few others can make Li batteries properly. I believe there are more arguments in the realm of sensibility and practicality, but these are the ones I can think of now.

I live in Malaysia, and we have hour long traffic jams just to commute to work, and back. And if it rains, those jams can easily take 2 hours or more. An automatic gear is a godsend in traffic jams. However, I also have a 4 wheel drive to go jungle bashing as a hobby, i.e., driving deep into the tropical jungle to camp and explore. Trust me, the simpler the 4 wheel drive with a strong manual gear is a must and a literal life-saver. And I used to have a small peppy manual gear car, which I would drive on long windy country roads. The joy and trill of barrelling down the road, hitting the perfect clutch change, and playing with the gears to extract the maximum power out of a small engine always brings a smile to my face!

Most driving instructors drive manual transmission cars, so pretty much everyone here is taught to drive manual. Automatic is slowly becoming more common here though - my next car will probably be an automatic - but it is still considered somewhat of a luxury. It's probably due to the high tax we have on cars. Driving is about more than just manual transmissions. A lot of 60s supercars came standard with manual steering and brakes. The Roadrunner even had manual windows. Performance buyers were opposed to anything that added weight, sapped power, or detracted from "real" driving. Now they want all the power and electronic gadgets, just give em a manual shifter. With the progress techs are making on self driving cars nowadays give or take another 20 years we'll probably be watching a video like this one saying about how people are complaining about the lack of cars that don't drive themselves. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if soon electric cars became the norm here in America. What does make me happy though is that I know manuals aren't ever going to go completely out of fashion, I'm not heavily into the tune market myself, but any car that has been through my auto shop and has had aftermarket work done on it has been a manual.

@@reokado4783 I think what will happen will be the urban centers will be dominated by electric cars. There is nothing better in congested urban centers than electric cars. The suburban areas will have a mixture of diesel, petrol, and electric. The rural areas will be dominated by true 4x4 that run on diesel, natural gas, or petrol, because they will need the extra range, and rural electrical grids are not very reliable at times. As for hybrids, their days are coming to a close soon. As batteries improve there will be no need for them in the urban centers, suburbs, and they are currently worthless in the rural areas half the year anyway.

@@boboutelama5748 I can see it's a joke. But theres something to be said about knowing how to maintain a car. Like my 83 cutlass that has NOT been overhauled and only needed a carburetor since I bought it used in 2009. Maybe I'll need a transmission in a few years...idk cause it's working perfectly now. No indication of a problem. Or my jaguar xj6. Where I've only had to replace a water pump and a gas tank. Currently driving a 99 expedition as the family truck. Simp,y buy a car from an area or from people that doesn't have much damage..and maintain it. Wash, lubes changes, liquid checks. And tire maintenance. Just those basics will have cars go on for years with no problem. I'm not a heavy mechanic, I'm not an old car enthusiast. I'm a 34yr old average guy who prefers older cars over the newer ones. Cars I saw when I was growing up in the 90s. Hit a ditch in my 83 cutlass, barely can tell. Tapped a tree with my 2010 impala...tapped the damn tree. Had to replace the rear bumper. All my older cars have a smooth ride and clean sounding.,most do...as clean as the sound from 2010s and up. Can barely tell if their cranked. And yea, I know you mean shocks/struts, joints, hinges etc. As well as clutch and whatnot. But do you really think cars are going to be driving down the road and all of a sudden fall apart like a cartoon? Needing to rep.ace everything at once? Shocks and joints can be fucked in a newer car by hitting a speed bump the wrong way..which many people do. Or running off the side of the road when texting..having to correct ones self..almost daily. To a person who's not lazy, therefore will take the few moments of time to maintain a vehicle, your comment is just weird.

I refuse to drive a non-manual sports car. You miss out on so much of the experience. However, a traditional automatic is something I don’t mind either. In a drag racing application or in old American land barge like a Grand National or 50’s-60’s Cadillac; I totally get it. CVT’s on the other hand can go to the deepest pit of hell and burn for eternity in endless, searing, excruciating agony for crimes against cars and humanity.

Civil Defense Group - I’ve driven one CVT car in my life and I loathed it. It’s just awful. It accelerates like a snail, like you said, as there’s no feeling of torque whatsoever. It just makes the driving experience feel “cheap”. DCT, Tiptronic and even the conventional torque converter auto is much better, but nothing can replace a manual shift.

@@rucarnuts13 agreed I work in a dealership so I get to drive thousands of different cars and configurations. 1 thing manual has that autos can't replicate is response time. Plant your foot on a manual and it'll light the tires on fire. On an auto it takes a bit before the torque converter locks on. So there's quite a delay in between input and the delivery. A dct is close because its just an auto shifting manual with 2 clutches and no torque converter.

My parents got a house about 4 hours away, beautifully drive through the cascade mountain passes.
