When this song came out I became a fan. I saw Maroon 5 supporting one of my favourite bands on a UK tour with Songs About Jane. I took the CD cover to get signed, not expecting to meet the band but I did by fluke. We went to drop off some friends from the concert venue to the hotel on foot as it was nearby. We saw the band in the hotel lobby/bar. I have to say Adam Levine didn’t smile or say anything to me, whilst he signed my album and had this stuck up air about him. As for Jesse, he was super lovely and asked how to spell my name. I think I may have bought 2 other albums by the band since but Moves like Jagger ruined it for them musically.

Indeed this is a lovely song. I haven't done any pointless music pedantry lately, as a result of which hairs are beginning to grow on the palms of my hands, so here goes.. 'bridge' is obviously a MUCH better term than 'middle eight', because what if your middle eight is 12 bars long? Then you'd have to call it the middle twelve. 🤣Nice one Justin. 🎶🌟👍

I used to consider Songs About Jane one of my favourite albums of all time. I probably still do. I used to listen to it on repeat daily on my way to school and never got bored of any of the songs. The lyrics took on a whole new meaning as I got older and I could really appreciate the song writing. They’ve done what most bands do and transitioned into new sounds over time. Unfortunately for me, I started to give up on them after ‘Hands All Over’ . The pop / chart sound just didn’t excite me and I felt they lost what made them great band.

First 2 albums are Great funk-pop with blue eyed soul song, with some nice ballads, on third You can find great funk songs like „Misery” too but later they are going into more world wide radio plays mainstream and doing what the actual trends are like and promoting Adam Levine as a one and only star and member of a band 😅 in the first 2 albums era whole band was promoted but there were different times in music, funk-pop was really mainstream like the neptunes, Pharrell Williams funky productions in rap for example.

Maroon 5 was my fav band for so long with some of my all time fave songs. This Love specifically is always going to be my number 1., she will be loved 2, and a few others in the top ten. But I could tell with each album they digressed further away from what made them special to me. The melancholy, kind of dark lyrics with a sense of loss/heartbreak, the funky base and bright electric guitar of James, it felt like a such a unique formula. There’s hints of it but it became more synthesized and “poppy.” Which was fine, they still had really fun pop bangers and some obscure titles that hit deep emotionally. Moves Like Jagger is like an inflection point, because it still has that James Valentine funky/reggae riff, but they production and lyrics are generic and the sound over produced. Now it’s just like we all say, it sounds like Levine with background music . Not much of any guitar/band emphasis. It’s just really disappointing because we know what they’re capable of, and they treat their “band” like a cash cow at this point.
