I think that it's awesome that GLC Railroad ended up getting Three SD35 Engine's from Montana Rail but it's always SAD to see the Engine's leave there home rails. Awesome video as always...

Thanks for the nice footage of those SD35's. I think one of the reasons why GLC picked up those SD35's is because on their rail line north of Cadillac to Petoskey, they have to cross the 100-year-old Manistee River bridge, which has weight restrictions so severe they had to cut in empty cars between loaded cars to distribute the weight, and those SD35s with more axles would be easier on that old bridge than GLC's main fleet of 4-axle power (GP35's and GP38-2's).

If they're adding empty cars to distribute weight, the issue is the total weight allowed on the bridge, not axle weight. An SD35 is much heavier than a GP35 or GP38 so they'd be worse on the weak bridge, not better.

Yes! And GLC takes great care of them. They are even upgrading their electrical systems, from what we've heard.

701, 702, 704, and 705 went to the Great Lakes Central, while 703 went to the Southern Railway of British Columbia (Sister company to Montana Rail Link)

Hello, Eli. First, thank you for watching and commenting! Unfortunately, we could not travel to Canada to document 703 (SRY 385), so we concentrated on GLC. Not sure where 704 ended up, but it’s been off the MRL roster for around 30 years.

Way back when, we would catch PC/CR SD35s quite often. Then after CR, we would catch the CNJ SD35s! B&O/Chessie SD35s were quite common. What really stood out was going to the Cincy area and catching L&N SD/SDP 35s. Once at CP GANO/Sharonville, Ohio I saw 3 SCL SDP35s!

Good catch. Those are ex-N&W high hood units. There is photo confirmation that at least one of them worked in Michigan for N&W or on a run-through.

Only 1 of these still run on GLC today the rest of them have been placed on the repair line unfortunately. 383 is the only survivor currently serviceable

Thank you for that information. We’re sorry to hear about 384 and 386. It would be great to see them running again. 383 seems to be “the chosen one”. 705 (383) was the last SD35 to operate on the MRL, as it was preferred by the railroad over the other two. We appreciate the comment.

Byron was a neat spot. We checked it out just ahead of the train, but had to race south to the next crossing when we found everything in town to be in shadows. Wish that hadn’t been the case.

It’s a turbocharged 567, hence the similar sound to a 645. Good possibility MRL may have upgraded some components in the SD35’s to 645 also, power assemblies etc

@@CVisionContributor I live in white rock bc so I'm closer to the BNSF line that runs on white rock beach I haven't actually seen a sry rail train accept for one of the sw900s in the yard at sumas in Abbotsford when visiting the aggressive towing yard for the tow truck toy run
