Warren Buffett is gonna be the richest guy in the cemetery. In other words, you can’t take it with you. Who cares who the richest person in the ground is because that’s where we all end up? How about instead of talking about money you talk about people…….pay attention to people and stop looking and talking about money.Build relationships with people and don’t worry about building relationships with money……..

I've sold about 95% of my sports collection, which made up about 75% of its total value. Almost all of that money was distributed throughout my three fund portfolio. A little bit was put into a HYSA so I still have some money to play with if I see any good deals. I can always buy some of those cards again, but I doubt it. I'll just continue to work, build up my card budget again, and hope to find some of the ultra low pop, obscure stuff on my list.

One of my best friends is a Realtor and he said this is the first time since the Covid housing boom that houses are selling for less than listed. That tells me people are finally pulling back and you will see a decade stagnation in the housing market after this correction. This happened after the 2008 housing market crash as values exploded from 2003-2007, collapsed in 2008, and stagnated from 2009-2020. The same thing will happen to the sports card market as the correction (since 2021) will eventually end, and prices will stagnate for another decade.

At the high end it’s all about psychology and rarity money isn’t an issue. In other words in an economic downturn rare paintings ,cards ,Ferraris and so on are never affected by the middle class losing 18% on the stock market or a 4% increase in unemployment.

The majority of Buffets cash has come from dividends. He's not re investing it because he has stated there aren't any good deals he currently sees. He rarely sells significant amounts of stocks. It is probably an eventuality that the market drops but he is not selling off. The percentage of cash compared to his portfolio is smaller

I will hold it a LONG time and hope she excels in the WNBA..

Without actual utility, cards are speculative assets at best. Nobody should be thinking about speculative money in the same way they think about investable assets like equities. They are not even close to the same risk profile. No more than 5%-10% of total risk assets should be in cards, IMO

@@TheSportsCardDad - when you look at the entirety of all asset classes, none of them have zero risk - aka a “guarantee,” other than US treasuries. But it’s a mistake to think “oh, nothing is guaranteed so it’s all the same.” It very definitely is not all the same. I believe you agree with this. I’m just saying that the way cards are being discussed as “investments” leads people, especially younger people who don’t know things yet, to lump them all in the same bucket. That is disastrous, right?

Bought my quarterly big card a month ago and have travel in fall and winter to save for so probably taking a break from anything triple digits or up. May just grade the stack of cards I have that I’ve been putting off, depends on where finances are in a few months I guess. Ichiro is a PC of mine so currently I feel he’ll get a surge in value (already has a bit) and some of his cards that are valued at hundreds of dollars may creep into low 1,000’s so time is ticking.

Just use the simple 80/20 rule. For example: if one has 100K investments in cards, be in 80% cards and 20% in cash during times of growth. However, when you see lots of speculation, euphoria, and gambling happening (rippers)... its time to go the other way and be 80% cash and 20% cards while consolidating your collection. Where are we at Today? I would be heavy in cash... tons off opportunities are coming :) You will know when to get back in... it's when you see less content from influencers and see videos, is the hobby dead... with lower views lol

Morning Dustin, Oh boy, you opened a can of worms with this question 🙋♂️ 😂. Personally my classic response to this type of question is “it depends” 😊 In our long term, retirement accounts, I’m keeping us extremely conservative and heavy in bonds/cash while very VERY slowly dipping into risk as they pop and come in from nosebleed levels. In the mean time I’m very happy collecting once in a decade interest rates on what we have. As far as my accounts with more risk tolerance, it depends on the style/approach I’m taking (eg.stocks/options/alt assets) and duration. Is it an investment or is it fun and flippable and can I sleep at night if I lose? Is it something I want to build and grow a position in slowly, ad to a collection, or something I’m willing to dump an hour, week, or month from now. 🤷♂️. Anywhooo, I know you are very familiar with all this stuff.. 👍 Instead of going on and on, here are my current thoughts: 1. Cards & Comics - If I can find a nice vintage or auto at a decent price that I want to ad to my collection and hold, maybe, but with some questionable grading companies, some other questionable service/sales platforms now, wax, flipping, selling and vaulting (due to fees), and definitely breaking it is out of the questionable. 2. Whisky 🥃, Wine 🍷, and tangible Blue Chip Art 🖼️, I remain bullish for the VERY long term in these non-liquid, non-correlated assets. Heck, I even grabbed a fractional piece of farmland on a K1 for the long haul. 3. REITS - I’ve been tinkering with these for a very long time and have built up a decent account. I personally like it as an alternative to being a landlord without the headaches. I get to see all the properties being invested in and the direction management is taking while collecting dividends and reaping the rewards of any potential capital gains. Sure there is some risk involved, but it’s a nice way to get Real Estate into your portfolio. 4. SPY: Weekly Bias remains bullish to 534 with a possible upside break, but where it goes from there is anyone’s guess, Monthly Bias: even with the pullback, I tentatively remain bullish up to 564 for August. However, I still see a possibility for the SPY to retest the 492 to 503 range so I am remaining very cautious and hedged. 5. Dollar Index: DXY Weekly Bias: Bearish to 102.16 with a Monthly Bias to 104.65 which it has already broken to the downside. Continuing to watch the weekly to monitor my monthly bias. With this crazy market and the Fed injected pump since the last housing crash 💥, and personal experience surviving multiple market crashes and a lifetime of battling Mr Market now, diversify diversify diversify and establish multiple accounts with different levels of risk tolerance imho. Only risk what you are willing to lose. Risk management first and for goodness sake don’t gamble with your rent and food money. 💰 ✌️👍 I know this may be a bit much, but you asked. 😂
