it was said somewhere that when oda was making supernovas back in sabaody his original plan was for kid and luffy to team up after fishman, but because of insane popularity from fandom that law gained editors adviced oda to make luffy team up with law instead so there was slight change of plans of who will be more and who will be less important among supernovas. also worth mentioning that oda admited he himself is very surprised that he kept all the supernovas somewhat relevant as he expected to just kill them / write them off quickly as the sole reason for supernovas existing in the first place was to make sabaody arc less boring. they were all made up in last second once oda and his editors realized the sabaody arc will be way too short and kind of boring if they dont do something about it. so to circle back to what you said, i think Kid was named after famous pirate and introduced as someone with higher bounty than luffy cause he planned to have kid be way more important than he actually is today

Koby has the sweetest case of imposter syndrome ever, I hope it’s just a phase. Even if you don’t compare him physically from his first appearance, the character growth that Koby has experienced has been astounding. I believe he’s Oda’s representation of who Luffy and/or Ace could have been if they joined the Navy. Just like Luffy, Koby has a powerful mentor, a group of close friends and his status in SWORD gives him the ability to do whatever he needs to do to make sure that everyone is saved. Kuzan never had any issue aligning himself with monsters as long as he believed he could get something out of it. He was not blind to the WG's horrors (he even specifically said to Smoker "I *never* thought the marines were the only way I could change things" or something to that effect. If he *never* thought they were the only solution but still accepted the horrors they committed for decades, it shows pretty well he's a "the end justify the means" kind of person. He only left the marines once the "end" wasn't possible anymore (as he failed to secure the position that could allow him to change things and Aka Inu of all people got it instead and presumably would keep it for a couple of decades). So I never had any issue believing that he was genuinely joining Teach because Kuzan is pretty fricking ruthless when it comes to getting what he wants. And sure he turns a blind eye to the horrors Teach commits but he did the same his entire career and as I pointed out, those horrors becoming too much is not why he left the marines, he left because he thought he could not use his position to enact change. So is Kuzan evil? Meh, his goals probably aren't evil, he's definitely trying to do some good whatever his plans are. And that probably means he will betray Blackbeard at some point but not because he was a spy, simply because as Blackbeard says, their alliance is one of convenience and therefore will end the moment it's not useful anymore. It's a Robin/Croc situation rather than a Drake or Rosinante situation basically. I like your idea of Kuzan having to choose his allegiance, but I do hope we get to find out exactly what his plans are before that happens. I also agree with you on Garp. I mean Garp's loyalty is to the marines, I think he genuinely believe that the marine protecting the common people is for the best. But if he can see a future in which Luffy destroys the WG but not the marines, he'd laugh and support his grandson. I don't think he's completely "fine" with Dragon though. I think they're ideologically different enough that they had a falling out. "it will be interesting to see how Oda justifies that" I mean... slaves?

Did you hear that Hibari has the same accent as the fleet admiral (i.e., akainu/sakazuki). It's transparent in the Japanese characters/writing, but that bit is lost in translations. This has led people to think that Hibari might be related to Akainu, maybe even the daughter. Which is so interesting, cute, and funny because of her relationship with Coby. Great stuff Merphy, 2 things I'm totally with you on: 1, "Pick a side" being a theme of Egghead I think is spot on and would be very fitting for the first arc of the Final Saga (on that note I wonder what Fujitora is doing right now...). 2, I also don't think Garp will die because there's more to be done with his character especially in regards to the God Valley incident. Thinking about it now, I don't think we've ever even heard Garp speak about Roger at length despite their history together and in my mind there's no way that goes unaddressed for the whole story. My view of Kuzan and Black beard relationship was something kinda similar to Luffy and the rest of his crew. Luffy never demands loyalty, he offers friendship and naturaly people gravitate towards him. To me, Black Beard did a similar thing but offerring a transactional relationship, but his charisma won Kuzan over. That's how I explain the scene where he says to Garp "Teach" isn't even here. It felt like "My captain trusted me to protect the island when he left and I will do it", something that any straw hat would do if Luffy asked

When you look at it coldly (heh) it makes sense. Kuzan is strong for sure but if he wants to change things he has to ally with someone, he can't just go against the emperors or the world goverment alone. Kaido and Big Mom are way too evil, prideful and volatile. Shanks is mostly keeping peace not really the type to go head first against the WG (for now at least) and he probably wouldn't side with an admiral that helped on WB's and Ace's death. So Blackbeard was the best bet, he wants to rule the world, aka destroy the navy, but he's still more approachable than idk Kaido lol, so he can be mostly on equal terms with Kuzan. Really it's a shame Luffy wasn't an Emperor 2 years ago😅🥺that would've been the perfect match, he gets to help Robin and Luffy the one who will free the world. So i think Kuzan will help BB till Akainu and the WG are defeated and then he will betray BB, which won't work since Luffy is the only one that will definitebly put him down but im sure Kuzan will be of great help on the downfall of BB.

This final saga I think is going to be about “losing your way.” This is a theme that has been lurking in the background that I think will have to come up at some point. Oda tends to use his movies as blueprints for future arcs and film Red is about - Uta losing her way. Then we also have a strange question about characters like Rocks D Xebec. We were told he was a heinous criminal by the navy, an unreliable source that tends to spread propaganda. Did he lose his way? Did Shanks, who now talks to the Gorosei, lose his way? Will Luffy, when he is foretold to destroy Fishman Island lose his way? Maybe the D live a checkered life because they tend to lose their way. Maybe Blackbeard was a genuinely good guy until he lost his way. This is a theme we haven’t yet explored and it seems like it is popping up everywhere. Even with having one of the Vegapunks “lose their way.” I say this is specific to this saga because Kanjuro didn’t lose his way, he was always a spy that just revealed himself.

With Law’s name, Trafalgar and Waterloo were both defeats for Napoleon. The battle of Trafalgar was a naval battle which primarily involved the defeat of his Spanish allies (Dressrosa being the island with primarily Spanish influence), and the Waterloo was his final defeat, at the hands of a large alliance of his enemies. To me that seems to be a direct parallel to the downfall of Kaido than any events Law went through.

Honestly, I'm so worried for Garp because we don't know how much time it will take for Blackbeard to get back. We don't know how far away he is, and I'm inclined to believe that he's close by judging by the amount of stamina it took for that one flying crew member he has (I forgot his name) to transport Blackbeard to the fight with Law. Garp is a legend - but he's not in his prime. And Blackbeard is like the Randy Orton of One Piece because he's a Legend Killer. He shows up, drops the RKO outta nowhere and takes the belts. To put it in perspective, imagine how frightening Luffy would be if we knew about as much about him as we know of Blackbeard? Some guy with dubious powers roaming around, knocking off legendary figures every few weeks. Nobody knows how he did it because, as the audience, we'd have never seen the fights in their entirety. Viewed like that, Blackbeard is basically a horror genre monster in pirate form. And part of the reason I'm worried for Garp is because there's a high possibility that Oda will cut back to the Strawhats, and some time later, he'll cut back to the Pirate island, and we'll just see a dead Garp with Blackbeard's stupid, laughing face standing over him.

Man Kuzan is such a fascinating character. Ohara changed him. It changed his destiny. He thought he could change the WG for good by becoming Fleet Admiral, and he lost. Here, he says it left him heartbroken. Garp reprimands him, saying only weaklings lose their way. But I think for Kuzan, it doesn't apply. He didn't lose his way. Rather, he found his way. Choosing to live for himself. Garp's words there can apply directly to Luffy. Post MF, he almost lost his way, but he didn't. Because he's not weak. He's not Aokiji. He's not a huge pillar of justice anymore. He's no larger than life symbol. He's.... just Kuzan, the human guy. Not trying to change the world. Just trying to live how he feels and do the occasional good deed. Joining a pirate crew not as an inside agent, it seems, but because he's come to appreciate the freedom they represent. No doubt Luffy helped him see that perspective.

-Kuzan is such an interesting character right now. He’s probably in my top 3 characters who’s stories I want to know. -Burgess calling Robin’s backstory boring… rude. -Blackbeard’s Pirates devil fruits are interesting. It’s like for the most part Oda just picked their main character trait and made it a fruit. Drunk=Alcohol, Very Big= Gigantification, Muscular= Strong, a Doctor= Illnesses. King Pizarro’s is interesting, taking control of an entire island is like a more overpowered Pica. Fighting him will be interesting. At the moment Lafitte’s fruit is the only one we don’t know. It must be on purpose that Oda’s saving him until last since he was the first one with a power revealed to us. (He had wings way back in his very first appearance.) -Knowing what we found out about ships back in Water 7 makes seeing ships get destroyed really hurt. RIP Kid’s and Law’s ships. They both had really cool designs. It’s interesting that Oda left Kid’s fate ambiguous yet let us know that Law escaped. Although he’s not going to get too far without the Polar Tang. -Considering that Kaidou had an entire army of Zoan’s I was expecting Rumble Balls to become important sometime during the Wano arc. Better late than never I guess. 😂 -I’ve been so interested in the Rocky Port incident ever since it was first briefly mentioned like, a decade ago. I hope we find out what exactly happened back then soon. The fact that the 100 pirates who’s hearts Law traded to become a Warlord are now living with Blackbeard is such a nice, little detail. Things like that are what I love about Oda’s world building. -WHO IS BURN SCAR? I NEED TO KNOW! -As basically the last remaining powerhouse of the old generation I am worried for Garp right now. I can’t see him losing a fight against Kuzan or Blackbeard but narratively he can’t be the one to take out Luffy’s biggest opponent. So he might let himself be taken prisoner in exchange for Coby’s freedom.

As @tacorrific mentioned a moment ago in this thread, I feel it's worth remembering that Pizarro is called "The Corrupt King" or something like that, I feel like him gaining the ability to control an entire island could be an interesting look into his past or personality as you mentioned in your comment about Blackbeard's crewmates' abilities effectively just being character traits. Like I could see him having the sort of backstory where he was a king, either by force or birthright, and became so enamored with the prospect of money that he sold all his citizens into slavery, or simply turned a blind eye to the poor as he hoarded the wealth, effectively making the island a cage the citizens could never escape. I don't know, I just think he could be an interesting character. Him, Lafitte, and Vasco are the BB pirates i'm hoping get backstories the most.

As much as I see the parallels between Garp and Whitebeard, I don't see his story ending here. As you said, I think Garp's character arc of making change from within requires Garp, Luffy, and Dragon to have some discussion / interaction demonstrating their shared and conflicted ideals as Garp and Luffy have been made clear for the reader, but Luffy and Garp never acknowledged their similarities and love for each other. That said, with it being end game, Oda should not use "fake out deaths" as a crutch for emotional impact. My pet theory for Kid's DF connected to his real world counterpart. Like the Kozuki, Kid's DF user was an ally of joyboy. Kid's past DF user is responsible for erasing the magnetic field around Laughtel so it couldn't be navigated to with a log pose. Thus, just like in the real world, Captain Kid is responsible for hiding the "One Piece".

one thing that really made me sad about the BB/Law fight is that the Heart Pirates basically just lost their Merry. They've had that submarine since they went out to sea, and none of them even got the chance to process their grief. The ship was gone and then they were defeated.

Blackbeard will probably bring Law’s crew to Hachinosu so he can sell them as slaves. Since it’s likely that the Holy Land is one of the final places people will fight, I think now we have a good reason why Law would want to go to either Hachinosu or the Holy Land

Oda is doing such a fantastic job with Kuzan's character. To me, there's absolutely no way that he's *simply* a Blackbeard Pirate. But Oda has actually convinced people that he is. I have always believed that Kuzan has been using BB for his intelligence network (Black Market), since he can't rely on the Navy anymore, in order to enact his justice. If you remember, the WG was tipped off about the HQ of the Revolutionaries (revealed in 824). I believe the man who did it was Kuzan. The only people who knew about the location were the BB pirates and Kuzan would've been among them. He also did something similar in Punk Hazard when he issued that warning to Smoker

I never really thought of Blackbeard trying to connect with the Celestial Dragons but it does make sense. The one thing I'm really confused is that Teach as a yonko should be able lead a country, but he still wants the pirate island to be recognized by the World Government.

It's crazy and insane that we haven't seen our main characters for 3 straight chapters. Final Saga is really hitting different, non stop peak These big incident that will happen in Egghead is gonna be shocking, of course. Oda really setting it up!! What will happen with the Straw Hats? Will they end up like Law and Kid? I know some people think that defeat for the Straw Hats are possible BUT no way they gonna lose this time. Sabaody arc and Egghead arc are similar BUT the Straw Hats are gonna win. There still gonna be some consequence BUT the Straw Hats will definitely win

The one Bepo attacked was Van Augur! The sniper for the Blackbeard pirates. Tho he seemed kinda nonchalant about it, maybe it didn't hit that hard. And I'm kinda surprised that we see the Rumble Ball actually doing what fans theorized long ago, bringing out the Sulong of the Mink, seeing that Chopper's Monster Point is very similar. Very... convenient too, huh, Oda.

Knowing about some last minute changes Oda did trough out the series anything can happen with Garp, he can die, he can be imprisoned, Blackbeard may want to make with Garp what the Marine did with Ace. The only 99,9% thing to happen is Koby escaping.

Man, this One Piece arc is TOP-TIER, and in the latest two chapters✨⚡🔥 first we got Koby, alongside Perona, trying to save himself and the slaves from Blackbeard crew💪👊 then we got Garp in action coming to help Koby (also for not being able to avoid Ace death 😭🌊), next the confrontation with Kuzan🥶 (and his flashback was very good as well), finally Blackbeard did try to get ANOTHER devil fruit for himself (that was broken😱), THANKFULLY Bepo did save Law from certain death🐻😍💖 similar to Zoro with luffy (from thriller park), ODA IS GOATED AGAIN AAAAAAAAAAH 😱😁✌

The feeling I get from Aokiji is that it is very convenient that he goes from a marine with some ounce of conviction to a pirate because of a power struggle with Akainu. Even the Blackbeard pirates from all the way back in Dressrosa knows it is too good to be true. If Kuzan was SWORD then like Akainu said "What he does is none of our business." Sword is a black ops team that the Marines can denounce if they are ever found out. Also shout-out to the end of Punk Hazard where Aokiji literally saves Smoker and tells him: "I am still me, Smoker." Aokiji is up to something because this chapter just seems way too convenient for his character to do a 180.

Random thought after these chapters - because Bepo saved Law by diving underwater because BB Crew are all Fruit eaters and can't swim, I think it would be hilarious if to get to the One Piece you have to traverse underwater in some way, and Blackbeard and co. LITERALLY cannot get to the One Piece without help which no one will due to his selfishness throughout the series, while Luffy would get help due to his selflessness.

Rumble Ball Sulong! That's something I've wondered if it would work ever since Sulong was introduced. And the fact that Chopper gave Bepo a Rumble Ball makes me think that the pirate alliance isn't as dead as Law tried to make it out to be. Actually, my theory is that Law never had any Poneglyph rubbings in the first place - that the one he gave Kid was actually the only one he made - because he's already betting on Luffy becoming the Pirate King. And we don't get any mention of whether Blackbeard actually got a rubbing from Law or not, so I think that possibility still exists.

I think the thing with Garp is that he’s not loyal to the World Government, he’s loyal TO THE MARINES. It explains his refusal to be promoted to a position where he’d have to submit to Government authority over Marine authority, and why he’s still working for the Marines as a teacher despite otherwise retiring.

Kuzan has long been one of my favourite characters. The story of a righteous marine being forced to commit and watch heinous acts in the name of laws that dont make sense to him, and then becoming disillusioned and apathetic, was a very engaging one to me. I feel like Akainu potentially becoming Fleet Admiral kind of woke him up in a sense. He realized that someone cold and ruthless would be at the helm of the marines, and putting a stop to Akainu and becoming Fleet Admiral reignited that burning justice he had lost. After fighting for 10 whole days (very different from his half-hearted and lazy attempts in his duties we'd been seeing), losing after getting that worked up for the first time in years was just too much for him, so he left. My personal theory was always that he left the marines in order to pursue his own kind of vigilante justice, but I dont know these chapters are making me wonder. Has he truly fallen to being a villain like Blackbeard? Is he trying to take down the BB pirates from within? Is he just using them for his goals only to betray them later? Im super curious Anyway, great video as always!

You should watch Morj's take on Garp. Essentially, Garp made a decision to let Ace die is because he has to choose between his view of freedom. Pirates are in one piece world loot, ravage and kill and destroy islands and nations. We know the world govt does the same but pirates are generally evil while marines are generally good in the story. The idea is that if Whitebeard wins then the entire structure of Marines goes down and that means utter chaos and annihilation of the world. Garp feels conflicted. He accepted the fate of Ace dying by execution. Luffy comes to the rescue and his emotions don't allow him to fight back while Marco was punched back before. When Luffy successfully rescues Ace then his hopes rise but then Akainu brutally kills Ace who is protecting Luffy. He breaks down and goes for a kill. Sengoku stops him as that would lead to Marine chaos. Hero killing marine admiral in support of pirates is not good for Marine morale. I agree with him. He didn't make a bad choice. His conflict of duty vs family is real. Your view that he should forget about duty, his life's dedication and peace in the world for a family is a flawed view.

I just knew that Merphy would love Perona's appearance in Hachinosu. Also, I believe we were told that Garp was "old and slow"... 🤔 Akainu better be kissing Sengoku's feet like he was a character in a Tarantino movie because Sengoku SAVED HIS LIFE in Marineford!! Garp would've folded him like origami. I'm not sure I'm on board with Merphy's stance that Garp is partially okay with Dragon, Roger or Luffy's choices just because they share an opposition to the Celestial Dragons. The sense that I get from Garp's character is that he's very much a guy who believes that the only legitimate institutional change is one that comes from within. I think one of the reasons why Dragon doesn't speak to Garp anymore is because of deep ideological differences between them. But I do see a way in which Oda could craft a family reunion where Garp, Dragon and Luffy are fighting on the same side, each with their own distinct reasons.

I agree completely with your takes on Garp. I think Garp gets captured and Luffy saves him by defeating the BB Pirates because I think Garp "sacrifices himself" to save Coby but Colby goes to Luffy for help and we kick off the BB arc. I feel like the OP community likes to praise Oda for never doing what we expect should happen and being one step ahead of people but then claim Shanks and Dragon and Garp are going to die even though that's literally the biggest trope in fiction lol not saying it can't happen but I don't expect Oda to really give us more than 1 more big death.

Oda just needs one line to make us understand Teach and set him up as the anti-Luffy... IMHO Kuzan is actually going rogue. He might not be fully on Teach's side, sure, but he is not working for the marines either and he won't return to them. He is a lone wolf now. Garp gets a lot of hate for not defecting the marines and not saving Ace, and I'm not here to argue that he was without faults then, but after these chapters I'm convinced that a lot of that backlash is undeserved. Should I remind everyone that Ace got saved in the end? The only reason he died was because he was an idiot who got jebaited. Sure, Garp prioritized his duty over him and did nothing to actively save him, but that's the keyword: he did nothing. I think it should be clear now that if Garp was serious about defending his post back at Marineford, NO ONE would've come even close to Ace, let alone actually save him. He gave everyone an actual chance to save him, which they did. He shares part of the blame for Ace's death, but so do the others (and mostly Ace himself). P.S.: YOU ARE A REAL FAN!
