Honestly it’s still so surreal to me that Julien is getting so much recognition. I went to high school with her and had shared friends. Saw her in the talent show. Had the Star Killer cd. So happy the world is getting to hear her!

I lived in memphis for a while and had a friend who knows her locally... its pretty cool to hear great music coming from memphis these days. Makes me miss Memphis. I’m so obsessed with boygenius currently and it’s frankly awesome that everyone has their own discography to dive into and obsess about loll

Absolutely adore Julien Baker's music, but I have to be careful about the headspace I'm in when I listen to it. Some of her music is oppressively somber, and I mean that in the best kind of way. As someone who has struggled with depression my whole life, every once in a while you just need a good cry and her music is usually a one-way ticket to that.

I got into Julien Baker around the same time I was getting into Andy Hull and Manchester Orchestra.. I've found so many great artists around that group of collaborators.. I'm new to the series so not sure what other artists you've covered, but Kevin Devine was another I found through through Andy Hull and Bad Books.. I listened to the song "You're a Mirror I can not Avoid" around the time my cousin died from a fentanyl overdose and it absolutely crushes me every time I hear it. I'd suggest it for anybody that might could use a cathartic cry 🫶

If you haven't already, you should listen to The Happy Fits! They're an absolutely fantastic indie rock band! You might have heard one song of theirs, "she wants me (to be loved)", after it garnerd some popularity a couple years back now, but i don't know how good of a reperesentation that is of their sound, since alot of theyre music is much more energetic, sometimes more lighthearted and sometimes a bit more intense, but generally very fast paced and high-energy, definetly the kind of music that makes you wanna dance! For a starting point, id probably recommend "Concentrate" or "awfully appealing"!
