Truly, I am very sorry for your loss. My Mother passed May 5th 2023. We had her here at our home for her last 3 months. You feel the way you feel. There is no right or wrong in those feelings. I know, some random guy, in a comment section, speaking my mind on grief. I do know it get’s better. There is a transition that happens when a loved one passes, from loving someone while they are here, to loving those dear people in memory. You are exactly right. Time is precious. Hang in there.

Hey Lauren, great to see you back, and my condolences on your loss. A question for you - how do you find you respond to music, in your bereavement? Do you want to hear things that help you escape from sorrow, or help you lean into it?
@MusicCatsandCoffee
3 ай бұрын
Hmm, that's a good question. When I'm feeling sad, I don't really listen to anything. I've learned that masking emotions can be a dangerous thing, so I tend to feel them 100% until they pass. Back in college though, I would lean into it, absolutely. Like, let me find the most depressing music ever made and listen to only that. 😂(Listening to music doesn't really mask emotions in the same way drinking would, for example, but it distracts me from what I'm feeling and I'd rather just feel it.) Hope that makes sense.

I've said this before, but I'm a fellow teacher too! As for my username, you pronounce it the exact same way I do, so that's quite alright lol! It's just a random nickname derived from my real life name. You described the loss of a loved one the same way I think of it. It never gets better or easier, we don't really ever heal from it. Life simply pushes us to move on and we get used to it and learn to tolerate this new state. I'm really sorry for your loss. Thanks for the answer!

It's good to see you (and Mocha), Lauren. First of all, that's an awesome shirt! Secondly, I understand what you mean about losing a parent. I lost my Dad a little over about 4.5 years ago and it's pretty much as you described it. It still feels terrible, but as time moves on you just learned how to deal with it/adjust. I don't think it really hurts any less.

Virtual hugs and much love to you and your brother and the rest of your family. I almost lost my mom couple years back. She still has her ups and downs sometimes falls down. It's always been us. My dad passed away before I was born. My grandparents on my dad's side passed away 11 years now. I still wish I could call them just to tell them how my day was or tell them a promotion I had from a job. There are days I just break down and cry. I could be just grocery shopping. They weren't just my grandparents they were my best friends. I told them more stuff more I've told my mom. Much love from the real ones.

May you find the solace you need - Took me 40+ years to learn to follow the gut. Your gut feeling won't lie, it doesn't overthink like the brain, nor hope like the heart. It's usually right. If your channel is the path back to feeling contentment, your gut instincts will know. If not, I am sure anyone who values the positivity and genuineness of your presence on the internets would prefer you finding contentment however you can, whether or not it be driven by media. You don't owe any of us anything. You do, however, owe yourself everything. In the meantime, take care.

Hi Lauren, I'm very happy you're back. That said, my heart goes out to you with losing your mother, I recently lost my mother and like you mentioned it's a pain that may never go away. My family also dealt with losing my brother to leukemia, such a horrible thing to go through. Now, the brighter side of things, I've been a Slipknot fan forever and still listen to them on a daily basis, your reactions to their catalog are hands down my favorite on KZitem. You take the time and not only try to break down lyrically what Corey is trying to convey but also appreciate the talent of the other band members and the "layers" they bring to the music. I very much enjoy your sense of humor, you always make me laugh at some point in the review. Take the time you need to come back, grieve how YOU need to, we'll be here when you're ready to get back into the game.

My condolences! Of course I hope that you find "good" ways to grief. And since you mention that time does not change anything... in psychology the rule of thumb is that the big part of mourning takes one year, and only then time will do its job. I hope you had the possibility to say goodbye in some form... However, Radiohead would be surely a good soundtrack to such a part in life next to The Smiths! Even more so without the hassle of reacting to it. Pyramid Song comes to mind. Sorry, I'm babbling, no one can make anything better. Keep yourself busy ... when possible ... and if this means making some whatever YT video, we are here.

Lauren, my sincerest condolences to you for the loss of your mother. I know she must have been a kind, intelligent and overall beautiful human being (because you possess all of those same qualities). I know how the loss of such a significant and pivotal person in your life can crush you emotionally, and leave you confused and questioning every aspect of your life and the nature of existence. We love your self-deprecating wit and humor and your intelligent and entertaining reactions to a wide variety of music. But of course, we care more about you and your well-being, and hope that you are taking care of yourself as you work through the grief and sadness of losing a parent. Whatever you decide is best for you, you will have the love and support of your online family that cares about you and appreciates your talent, hard work and passion for music. ❤ 😿❤🙏❤

I have some questions so I'll post them here since I missed your community post (bummer) and maybe you'll get to them: 1. Since you're not loving the angry metal songs at the moment, what genres or other types of music would you like us to recommend? You mentioned Radiohead, so if you've never heard Street Spirit, I'll throw it in the form, but I'm curious about what else you might be interested in. 2. Did you watch the Ghost movie/concert, "Rite Here Rite Now"? 3. Would you see them in concert?

Lauren you are awesome. I love Chevelle. It is how I found you. But for some reason Chevelle is not a reactor's gold mine. It seems the best route is to react to the videos that have many, many millions of views, and then the ones all the other reactors react to. It seems to be the formula.
