I still remember the first time I heard this song, it was in September of 1983, when I was on vacation in Paris, France. Gosh! Almost every single radio station was playing that song. When I got home in N.Y., U.S., no radio station was playing that song. I had to look for it using the Billboard magazine and found it. 😊
@davidaaronmoore

That's US radio for ya! Back then and now. I had a similar experience at an antique mart in Paris! I was walking beside an elderly silver haired woman pushing a shopping cart with an ol' skool boom box in it and she was listening to "My Way" by Frank Sinatra. That ended and a dance song called "I'm Horny" (Mousse T) came on right after and she didn't flinch. The combination of elements was hysterical, but, the song was genuinely good and all over Paris radio. I got back to the US, and NOTHING. But with Eartha, she was an American legend, and pop radio programmers just ignored her. That was just wrong. Anyway, this did go to the top of the dance charts in the US and spawned quite a rebirth for Eartha. 😊

How does she do it? She is truly phenomenal and mesmerising. One tries to analyse, but to no avail. The melody is simple, idem the text. The vocal range is modest, the video rudimentary, And yet, and yet….. This is the power of charisma, the force of personality. This lady is a force of nature, a sensual tornado. Nobody, but nobody else could bring off this song. Wonderful, wonderful Eartha!

I was friends with an off broadway producer guy named Don Hite who put on various musicals and concerts in Savannah and Hilton Head in the late 90s - early 2000s. In 1999 he'd booked her for two weekends performing in Savannah where I lived in the historic downtown area. I found myself hanging out with them on both weekends. It was great fun although even back then she had long left her partying days behind in the past. I seem to remember Eartha had forgot her Allegra or Claritin which back then was prescription only and she was going through it so since I took the same thing I dashed back home to grab my bottle and she was tickled shitless when I got back with them. Good times! Good Times!

@@VinnieRattolleyes we all remember it well. They used to play this song on a loop almost at every gay club in the 80s and well into the 90s!!!!!!! It was hugely popular. They would also sometimes speed it up to make it faster for the dance floor! Or “techno-ify” it! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 when I think back: so much time was wasted worshipping these campy, vacuous and silly songs back in the day. Yes it’s camp but looking back on it all now, just dumb too. That we identified with this type of desperate, prowling woman is both hysterical … and sad.

She also played Cat Woman…. In the third and final season of the Batman series, Eartha Kitt took over the role of Catwoman. Though she only played the character for one season, it had a lasting impact on the Batman franchise and future superhero projects, as she was the first Black actress to portray the character. "That character to me was so much fun," Kitt previously said during an interview in 2002. "I was in dire need of tremendous help at that time and like a starving cat, I had to find a way to survive. And something wonderful always happens. It was one of the most wonderful bones that has ever been thrown to me."

Eartha Kitt was a true talent. She sang fluently in English, French and Spanish. She also has songs in Turkish. She was a class act.

I don't wanna be alone, where is my baby? I don't wanna be alone, where is my man? I spend hours by the phone, where is my baby? I chew my fingers to the bone, where is my man? My list of needs is really quite brief I need a man who can bring my beliefs From all the stress and strains of the day With just a kind stroke to Cartier I need a man who can take me then taunt me and make me Buy the things that I so richly desire A man who knows what I require The things that I desire Is there anyone out there who has the nerve? I don't wanna be alone, where is my baby? I don't wanna be alone, where is my man? I spend hours by the phone - where is my baby? I chew my fingers to the bone, where is my man Where is my baby? He can't be far. Look for an Ascot, a big cigar Tell him to find me Send his car to this address I have to stress I need him now. I don't wanna be alone, where is my baby? I don't wanna be alone, where is my man? I spend hours by the phone, where is my baby? I chew my fingers to the bone, where is my man? The kind of man that I adore's the kind of man that gives me more Of all the better things in life that aren't free. Such things as summer by the sea The Hamptons, Malibu, Capri. The kind of man who comes alive When he comes near Rodeo Drive Is the kind of man who wins my heart with style and class. You know I've tried some other men The kind with zeros less than ten But every time I grab the ring it's always brass. I don't wanna be alone, where is my baby? I don't wanna be alone, where is my man? I spend hours by the phone, where is my baby? I chew my fingers to the bone, where is my man? I don't wanna be alone, where is my baby? I don't wanna be alone, where is my man? I spend hours by the phone, where is my baby? I chew my fingers to the bone, where is my man? I don't wanna be alone, where is my baby? I don't wanna be alone, where is my man?
