It's kind of fascinating. I think Vietnamese are like the third biggest minority in Czech Republic (the only two bigger are Ukrainians and Slovaks) I heard that the reason for this is that Czech Republic offered to house refugees during the war and a lot of them stayed afterwards and also because of shared government programmes for students - both countries were communist republics at the time so the cooperation is not that surprising, but it's still interesting (at least for me.)

Glad to see that mosaic is still there! There's actually one more even cooler thing about it: It's early computer art. Designed with help from some sort of computer program. I know this because it was designed by a distant relative of mine - my mother told me about it, because he explained it to her as he was working on it. Sadly, distant relative I've never met myself so I can't remember his name - but I believe it was a collaboration between a mathematician (said relative) and an artist (who was responsible for turning the math into the visual representation done in tiles).

Oh, how it changed with times. 35 years ago I used to frequent Rybárna, stand up buffet in one of the passages on top of Václaváku., where they had an astonishing choices of seafood dishes. Another passage had this place to get a very nice ice-cream with fruit and choice of toppings. And of course, most butcher shops had an "ovar" with piece of bread and yes - bottle of beer. My favorite was to visit a dingy village pubs in the countryside, where in season one can get a wonderful goulash of true wild bore and dumplings. I haven't been back in Czechia for many years now, and I notice from local news, streaming and radio broadcast, how the language changed too, it evolved incorporating a lot of English words with a Czech twist. I come from Brno and in the past, Czech language there incorporated a lot of German words - being so close to Vienna in Austria.
@beth12svist

Brno is now a much more mixed place, but some of the German influence persists - most famously, of course, šalina. I've heard the strongest German-influenced things from people who live near Brno rather than _in_ Brno, now; but it's still there. And so are the village pubs, I think.

This is such good information. I have Celiac and anything with gluten in it can make me sick for days. Videos about different restaurants and cafes help me research, and vegetarian restaurants often have an overlap with offering gluten free dishes as well (or at least they understand food allergies!) I often end up making a picnic lunch on the go by visiting one or two local shops that sell cheeses or cured meats, and getting gluten free crackers plus fruit and water from "bio" grocery stores. In the USA, we usually call them "health food stores." Thanks again for the excellent content.
@PetrCobra

Anywhere you eat in CZ, they have a list of alergens right next to the food listing in the menu, or if they're defiant against the law, at the very least you can ask them about it and they'll know. The alergens are coded by numbers to make it shorter and gluten is number 1, so anything with that number on any menu you can ignore. It can also happen that they make a mistake, especially in dailies, so sometimes it's better to double check with the waiter but it should be a good general filter for you.
