Just cycle South Downs Way…. On a mountain bike. Kept thinking en route which type of bike it was best suited to and I think mountain rather than gravel as the chalk and flint are a bigger! I regret over packing ie taking too much stuff for the three days and two nights of camping. So lesson for me for next time. I barely saw a soul for two days. There’s loads of climbing but it’s so worth it. Stop in Alfriston for breakfast is a must. Housedean Farm campsite is a must too. Great showers and so well organised. Thanks for video. I’m new to bike packing and these routes are now in my list!!!!

Another good reason to ride off road in the UK is that you don’t have to worry about bears and big cats! Here in the US it can be a real concern on some routes.

I only worry about people coming across my camp at night. Might get a fox, badger or the odd big cat, thankfully we don't have bears,

Why didn't you mention just a road one, I understand most bike packing cyclists prefer gravel but some prefer road as well. Thanks

Some good routes there. I did half of the southdowns way on a CX bike once...... would use a mountain bike if I had to do it again as no suspension was too hard going.

Great stuff! Always looking for the next adventure.Did GNT last year on Ribble CGR electric, lovely bike, but in hindsight , a full suspension non electric mountain bike would have been better. Stayed in accommodation along the way and the plan worked to perfection.18 days, 40 miles per day 720 miles.Following Kamoot, good bit of kit.Think Nike, ‘just do it’. Holland again next year😂

Did King Alfred’s way in 5 days on a hybrid bike. Thoroughly enjoyable. Just wouldn’t recommend doing it when wet due to mud and chalk. Slippy.

Central Wales has a desert due to the very low density of stock the poor ground will sustain. That's the definition of a desert. Cwmystwyth had leadmines. Slate is restricted to North Wales. Mid Wales has a lot of lead and shale.
