It's not the same formula, but this reminds me so much of Pete's Dragon. In a way, the Dragon moves from child to child to aid them in need. In relation, the island is meant to aid children like Max. And moves from child to child, possibly changing form to reflect the child. We don't know the other versions, because they aren't meant for us.

Part of what’s great about friends is also part of what sucks about them. It seems that our situations dictate friendships at first. Then, given enough time together in these situations our friendships may transcend our situations. I am currently in active contact with ONE friend I’ve had since elementary school and several more I met all the way in college. Of course, now that I’m older, I don’t view these other friends as being enemies or even NPC’s. I know that if we were to get together again, we would probably still hit it off. Anyway, it’ll all work out. Make new friends, or don’t! Sometimes it’s okay to go it alone too.

I remember this was my favorite movie when I was little. It made me feel loved but lonely at the same time. At the age of six, I didn’t know why the ending scene always got to me until I got older. People underestimate how lonely it can be to be a kid.. I did have a lot of friends and family as a child, but being physically alone is different from feeling alone and at several times, I felt like the loneliest kid in the world. At the age of six I couldn’t form it into words, but now I can say that this movie captures the pure essence of childhood sorrow and everlasting love perfectly. Im not lonely anymore by the way. I have people who truly love me and I love them back with all my heart and soul, and when I’m with them, I never ever feel alone. Yet with this pandemic, I haven’t seen my boyfriend or any of my friends in over 5 months. I know that I’ll see them again soon, and I’m happy that we still talk like 24/7, but I miss seeing them in person. I haven’t felt that sense of loneliness in a very long time. Coming back to this ending scene is one of the greatest loves and greatest sorrows that cinema has to offer me.

My journey is like a roller coaster and still is as I am writing this post. From mental issues to a life of pains & suffering, to love, to fear, to lost, to schizo, to homelessness, and all of the emotions/mental issues that some of us have to deal with on a daily. Some of the people I met are like the characters in the movie, pretty sad but that is what life is. Some I can't help and some I have to look away from even though it's painful inside. Sad for me to walk away, but I must come first. Who is gonna help me if I fall? It's not only me who needed help, but also the people I met for the past year. I have so much emotional built-in that sometimes it's hard to bear. I'd wish I have a magic wand and wave at some of these people to make their problems go away. But then, I would have to wave it myself and make my "Leukemia" go away too. It really opens up your eyes and mind and the effects that sometimes are hard to bear. If you do not understand this movie... Go on a little journey like me and you shall see it all. It will change you for the better!*

I rented this movie from blockbuster when i was 10 and i remeber replaying it so many times. I still don't understand why the feeling always got to me. I didn't even understand. I don't even really remember what happened in the movie. The only scenes i remember are this one and the one in which Carol ripps off the eagle's arm

So often I remember this movie and how sad I thought it was as a kid, but now it's the most gut-punching movie with the most real monsters in cinema perhaps. It especially hits hard, because I'm now in a period where I feel the sense of pure fun and imagination slowly drift away. I live with high school friends right now and we all know that sometimes good friends just shouldn't live together. That's the case, but I love living on my own in a sense with friends that are thoughtful and can be wild. The thing is they're some of my only friends, at least from my high school, and I want us all to be together every night to talk and chill. We don't hang as much anymore and with me being the newest roommate I naturally feel the least integrated and boy does this movie capture the isolated loneliness that this entails. It drive me to believe that I'm the lone Bull, the most quiet, but wanting the best for all of us and to feel good about us. But in the end I know I'm Max, parting ways in my little boat.

People say, that it’s him leaving his childhood and imagination. But why. Why does it have to end. We are all born with a childlike sense of wonder, and then once we grow up, we just stop. We stop exploring. We stop wondering. We simply, stop. So then, why do we do this to ourselves? We are always such in a race to become older and mature and edgy. And once it happens, we want to go back. Have you ever been made fun of for being the least bit childish? Max is about to go into his teenage years, he about 12. Now it’s hard becoming older, because you begin to become scared about what other people will think. Max created these things to have someone that understood him, you’ll see how reality sneaks it’s way into imagination. See, max is unique, nobody gets him, he’s misunderstood. He left his mom because she didn’t understand his feelings. At the beginning you see her on a date drinking wine. She stopped. She forgot what it was like to be in his shoes. So when he ran away he used his childlike imagination to create a world where everyone loved him. But they had problems to. Even in your imagination you cant escape the reality of problems. They were hoping that he would solve their problems. He tried but, he couldn’t. He couldn’t do it on his own. He also needed someone. Someone to solve his problems. When he goes back, maybe his mom might understand him a bit more. Now when things start to fall apart, it’s because he can’t fix all of these problems. No matter what you do you can’t fix everything to be perfect. Everyone wants different things. And if they can’t be compatible, then they can’t be satisfied. Even in your imagination you can’t be satisfied. He begins to miss his mom, and wants to be somewhere where someone loves him most of all. That’s why he tells kw, “I wish you had a mom” . All I’m saying is that, you only get to be a kid for so long, cause eventually life will begin to become harder and more like, reality. You won’t always be able to run away to your imagination when things are bad, or someone doesn’t understand you. As max leaves, Carols world starts to fall apart with Max’s imagination. Everyone is being separated cause they all want different things. All carol wanted was for everyone to be together, but they can’t cause they all have different minds. But, they are all still family. It doesn’t matter if you have different thoughts. Same with max. When his sister doesn’t play with him and his mother doesn’t acknowledge him, all he wants is for them to be together. Carol represents max, and max represents carol. They are one in the same. Carol was excited when max came cause he found someone that understood him. And when max left, it was like he was disappearing cause max was leaving. When carol is talking about the island becoming dust, it’s because max is becoming older. His imagination is fading and so is his innocence. After he leaves, he can never go back.

I don't get why people think Carol didn't say goodbye. Yes, he didn't get to hug him. But I don't think that is needed. What would have been terrible is if he didn't see him at all, but he did. They roared together and he looked upon him with love and forgiveness. That's what matters most. And Carol knew Max had to go. So it's more of a lesson that Max had to let go of not only Carol, but everyone. And that does not take away all the times they did hug and have a bond.
