You certainly know the soul of dance, and more, you can explain it clearly to even an amateur like me. I like dance but notice that something is missing. Watching your video, I realise the missing part is the soul of dance, the feeling of it.

that's a definitely common comment. with time and familiarity with steps would be easier to focus and to create connection

Awesome video. Can you help with changes in facial expression that does not come across as fake.

Thank you for watching and commenting. In relation to the facial expression - it is very personal. The main suggestion is here - make sure the facial expression is matching the movement and IS NEVER distraction from the dance and the movement itself. Facial expression is more like a cherry on top a cake but not the cake itself. Often times talking through "the eyes" is much louder than facial expression or the words too. Hope this helps

At what skill level do these remarks have relevance that can actually be practiced and put to use? By skill level, I mean minimum accumulated technique for the whole dancing endeavor: arms, isolated parts of torso and hips, head, all engaged in addition to footwork. If I get an answer like, "Oh, from day 1. Important all the time at any skill level," then I'll be disappointed because it seems as though it's wishful thinking for very advanced students only.

Love this comment! You are right, it is definitely not for the day 1. There are so many layers and levels of coordination one can focus and learn about. Beginners mostly start from steps and a bit of music. Perhaps gradually moving on to hips and maybe later arms. I normally teach arm movement only when students are more comfortable with leg action and there is some familiarity with basic steps. But, in relation to energy and really feeling of dance anyone can do it and whatever level they are at. Some people don't even want to think of technique and just to "feel" the dance. Everyone has their own unique experience and dance path. There are no development rules that apply to everyone in the same way. Some people want to learn Top-down approach - just to feel and have fun. Some, want bottom-up - more doing it through their head and by learning technique and the details. There is no clear cut rules for it. I am just sharing my experience and knowledge here. There will be definitely those who find it relevant and pick it up. Some might choose to leave it for later or disregard completely. Thank you for watching and commenting, I do cherish any and all feedback.
