OMG!!! I am so happy I have come across your videos!!!! I have been pressing so hard on the strings that I kept getting my fingers caught! Practicing from one of your tutorials, I am not only able t create a consistent sound (volume) with each note but also able to move faster between strings because I am not doing any heavy lifting of my fingers! Thank you so much!!!

Most sane video ive seen on this topic. I went to the symphony last night and looked at everyone's thumb. Everyone was different completely but NOBODY had their thumb underneath. I am glad you said this because I saw a video from a violin teacher last night saying to put the thumb underneath. It felt wrong to my body. Nobody in the symphony did it, and you say its wrong too. Thank you.

Very good video. All of these hand techniques, if done properly, will help promote pleasure and playing well. When done incorrectly they will cause pain and undue tension.

Briiliant lesson! (I'm wondering what he wuld say about using a Sholder Rest. I prefer not to use one. Probably he'd say it's an individual choice.)🥀

Thank you again professor, this is a great confirmation of how I do it also. The only difficulty I face, is placing the 1st finger down in 1st position, in tune, as there is no guide post. I usually find my intonation in first position by placing down the third finger first and then the first finger, meaning my guide is the 3rd finger. Please, I ask for your expert guidance on this.

I have the same "problem". I use my third finger to find intonation. But its ok . Its a process and with practice we will only get better. ❤

They say that the arm and hand should work together. That makes sense. Also, to keep your fingers raised, making a tunnel under your fingers. Do not flatten out.

I'm like trump. Tiny hands . I'm six feet five and my hand size is equivalent to a person 8 inches shorter than I am? Yet it is tough to get an extra large size glove on my hand? I should of taken up the trombone I realize but I'm sticking with the violin. I think it would be best to have the finger board extend in the posterior direction of the neck so my thumb could could slide along the ebony lip as I maintain curved fingers. Play on the finger. tips rather than the pads. Or a embedded metal runner running along the neck bottom to slide my thumb , first ( top ) joint segment along the underside of the neck. But as you point out for playing in position5 and beyond, particularly the wooden lip where the violin's top is glued to the sides need to be carved flush with the right angle joint in the on the violin at the posterior side at neck attachment to allow the thumb to slide from bottom of neck to the edge of the fingerboard suspended over the violin's sound body
