I am a big fan of Mr Kalashnikov's work. They blow away a timex for durability and still keep going through extreme neglect.

Very nice, and detailed, David! I would always emphasize having lots of ammunition for a few firearms over an arsenal of guns with limited ammo for each. Also, while 12 gauge pump shotguns are relatively inexpensive, they are difficult and intimidating to shoot for inexperienced or novice shooters. A 20 gauge shotgun or smaller caliber rifle may be better for multiple family members. Keep the good content coming!

I agree that having ammo with / on the shotgun is important. I have competed with combat shotguns for over 30 yrs ...having ammo swinging around on the sling makes a shotgun particularly hard to handle especially for a novice shooter. I tried many combinations and loading from the body off of a bandolier or waist belt is best way. Great to get the conversation started . Thanks David!

True, I think adding the bandolier to get that extra ammo handy would have been better than on a sling, but then would have cost another $15ish toward the gun and away from food and other stuff. It was a lot hard to put this together than I expected!

Honestly David I believe a $15 fanny pack would be a cheap answer...

I have a number of firearms including ARs and handguns. Have to say that my Maverick 88 is my go to for home defense. Solid and reliable and your recommendation is spot on. I would recommend a 2 point sling.

By the way I’ve watched a lot of your bourbon reviews but had no idea that your interests included such sensible things as firearm choices and prepping for inevitable disasters. You’re a stand up guy in my book!
