It’s amazing how you’re a big reader all your life without dyslexia or aphantasia bothering you. It shows the power and adaptability of the human mind! 😊

this is so helpful! it never occurred to me that i could just, read anything???? like....even books for middle schoolers- im definitely gonna check out the percy jackson series now!!! im unsure if i have aphantasia, but i found this video very encouraging and it made a lot of sense. :) also, youre so right, reading is a skill. i just picked up a book again after not reading for years and it took a lil bit to start being able to actually process what i was reading. awesome video!!

Thank you for two very informative and complete videos on the experience of aphantasia. I agree with everything in your first video on the subject. I close my eyes and there’s nothing. If I’m told to visualise an apple,I sort of use words to describe an apple. Lots of memory techniques rely on visualisation and are really not available for me. One thing you didn’t mention that may or may not affect you but affects me is the experience of dreaming. People in my dreams are gray and formless. I can’t easily remember dreams and yet there are emotional and physical elements. I do disagree with you on one point. I consider it to be a disability in the way it affects my memory of people and places. By the way, I am not at all dyslexic. I can’t picture a word when I close my eyes but when I see it and it’s spelt incorrectly it really annoys me. Also when there is a book which has words and pictures e.g. people or graphs or cartoons,I tend to ignore the pictures unless I really have to study them. Not sure if you’ll read this because I’m so “late to the party”.

I don't understand how you can enjoy reading with this condition? The whole enjoyment comes from mentally visualizing and creating this fantastical scenes in your head. When someone says "The movie was much worse than the book, nothing looked like it did in my head" It must not even compute for you?

That's a very ignorant viewpoint to have. People with aphantasia have never experienced anything different and we have learned to adapt and enjoy reading regardless even if it is harder.

I agree and so frustrating that you disappear when you’re not actually in front of me.
