The first few years I camped in a backyard in Sturgis about a mile away from the main streets and I remember walking in to town and seeing bedsheets hanging over fence lines advertising camping spots for like $20 complete with shower and shittter. Sometimes they include a tent, even. but even during the rally if you just roll in on a bike with a tent and cruise the residential streets, you’ll see one within 10 minutes available. I’ve upgraded since then, but that’s an easy way to get in on the cheap.

Glencoe was a place to pitch our tent in 1990. Buffalo Chip had the best music / bands in 2008 and 2015. Went through town on the way to New York City in 2011. Came back through a week after the Rally and the T-shirts, my prefered attire, were on sale three for ten dollars. Pappy Hoel, with the Full Throttle Saloon conveniently located right next door made it easy to get home without the undo attention of law enforcement. I'll be through this year also on the way home from a four corners run. Getting old sucks, may be the last long ride I do.

Great start to the series Monk, your totally right about the distance to go anywhere, as last yr was my first time because of YOU, I solo'd down from Canada, the biggest thing i noticed is how far out everything is, i stayed in Keystone because its close to in my and others opinions the best riding in the black hills... BUT... when you leave the chip after the concert...and run the Sturgis PD gauntlet.. then run the Deer gauntlet, it took anywhere from an hr 10 to an hr 30 to get back to the hotel... and yes the Deer and the PoPo are a VERY real thing there.. cant wait for the next installment. Cheers from the Great White North. 🇨🇦

Thanks for posting this. I always enjoy the videos where you share your knowledge of the rallies. I stayed at Days Inn the first time I was at Sturgis and the Buffalo Chip ever since. I agree with you about the camping. There are a couple of other channels I subscribe to and they rent houses up in Deadwood and while it looks fun, I know I could never give up the camping experience at Sturgis. I will one day have to give Glencoe a try. I've heard many great things about it as well.

So, we did a vrbo for Sturgis 2022. It was awesome for someone that wanted to be "in it" but have a way to get "out of it". We had a beautiful place that was a 3 bdrm 2 bth sitting on an acre of quietness outside of Hill City. I would 1000% recommend doing it. We were able to ride to wherever we wanted to, and we even stayed overnight at the Chip for Papa Roach (which, we had a f'ng fantastic time!!!). VRBO or AirBnB would be for those that want a place to their own or (as we did) a group home for the Rally. It is more of an out and back, base camp style, experience. Cost sharing allows you to do it with close friends, emphasize on CLOSE friends. LOL

Stay where you party is so important. Had a buddy party at the Chip and he ended up sleeping UNDER some random person's RV for a few hours to sober up before riding back to his hotel. Not sure if I will make it back this year but next year for sure.

My last trip to Sturgis and being a little older and not into the rowdy crowds anymore, we stayed at a campground called Happy Holiday. It's just down the road from the Reptile Garden, we met a great couple from Tenn. and road with them a few days. Lots of trees with full hookups and about half the price of the camps close to Sturgis. It had a covered picnic table with a fire pit on concrete, that's where I parked the bike during the rain and hail. Very friendly and easy access to all the major routes!

An option for people that want to be able to sleep is three flags campground. It’s about 20 minutes outside sturgis and I can only speak for tent camping but that’s $50 a person the first night and $20 a night every night after for a powered tent spot. They have shower rooms and hand out coffee and donuts every morning for free. Everybody sleeps on that place so spots are pretty easy to come by.
