Also bear in mind, some MOSs comes with security clearances for example 25Bs need a secret clearance. This could open opportunities for government jobs that require clearances.

As soon as I turn 20, im joining the army. I'm gonna join infantry as a private, construction as a private first class and mechanic as a specialist. I'm starting to be interested in manual labor jobs, which is ironic because I tend to be lazy. I think after I leave, I might get a job in an auto body shop after college or become a construction mechanic. my dad is a regular mechanic, so I think that working on cars or vehicles in general is a good skill to learn. I plan on going into the movie making business, so that if i have all of that on my resume, the people who work for me can't say that im lazy and that I don't know how to work. infantry so I can learn how to fight, construction to help build muscle and get me used to hard work, and mechanic so I can turn hunks of scrap into works of art again.

Matt Ward , 68A biomedical equipment specialist pays well as a civilian. They repair, test, calibrate and perform preventive maintenance (PM) on medical equipment in a hospital and laboratories. I work for GE Healthcare as a field service engineer and did this job in the Air Force 4A2X1 equivalent. Lots of folks at GE from the military and they got all this great training that lead to a great civilian job. Diagnostic Imaging such as MRI, CT, Cath Lab, etc... all pay $100K+ with base pay and all the over time. Bad part: tech school is almost 1 year. 😞

I went to a recruiter on Friday and i go to MEPS next Friday. I'm sorry so say that most employers don't care about the military things you've done. They only care if you have the relevant and recent job experience and they like you. They don't care if you were a Staff Sergeant, E-6 leading 20 troops. All they care about is if you have the relevant skills. Employers are stupid when it comes to recruiting veterans because of this. If I was a recruiter for an employer, I would seek Army or Marine veterans first, then other branches, then someone with relevant experience.

I've been watching your videos recently ever since I have thought about joining the army reserves. I'm 23 years old and married with no children. My end goal is to be a firefighter Paramedic here in Vegas. I've always wanted to join the military and now I think I finally have the gumption to actually do it. My papa was apart of the 82nd airborne and airborne school would be something I also want to do. So, here is my question. I have heard that the firefighter MOS 12M has been replaced by private contractors sometime ago, but when I do research I can still see that, that is still a job. Do you happen to know if that is the case or not? If so, if I get accepted to do that position before BCT is there anyway I could also be a combat medic if I get deployed? Or while deployed would I still have the same MOS or turn into a soldier with no real job while deployed? I'm hoping to get experience and training that will help me get to my end goal as well as serve my country and receive some life long benefits that come with it all. I have just been looking into all of this so I really do not know a whole lot about the military, so sorry if my questions sound silly at all. I've ordered the ASVAB for Dummies book to study. Any information is greatly appreciated. Is there anyway to contact you privately if I would like to ask further questions in future with recruiters and things of that nature?

Avery Gaston I'm active duty Army and know plenty of MP's. Keep in mind that MP is considered almost as bad as being a cook. Just like cook, it's a highly stressful and draining MOS on top of the stress of being active duty Army on top of the stress of being active duty military period. You get no time off, you'll probably be working weekends and holidays just like cooks do, and you'll still probably get caught up working out in the motorpool (as plenty of people in the Army wind up doing instead of actually doing their MOS), and because this is still the Army, you'll still from time to time have to go spend weeks out in the field without washing your azz. And because this is still the Army, you'll still have to be issues a warehouse full of infantry gear that you must take account of (or else) and bring to the field with you and from time to time do PT in, in addition to the gear you'll be assigned as an MP. I'd advise against choosing MP. If you still want to be an MP, then maybe you could be an MP in the Air Force or the Navy, but I'd advise against being an MP in the Army (and pretty much most military jobs are even worse in the Army than they are in Navy or Air Force). If you still want to be an MP in active duty Army after you already know this information of how bad it is and how worse it is in Army, then fine, but you shouldn't be surprise if things wind up just what I described based on Army MP's I know. Also, I would advise you to sign the shortest contract as possible (3 years) instead of a long contract (4,5 or 6 years).

@@richie9878 It might sound funny but as far as you know, just how often would personnel in that MOS (as cool as counterintelligence sounds) actually do it? So many people in the army, come to find out, don't actually do their MOS's often and instead get stuck out in the motor pool. I've had one guy who was a 35 foxtrot tell me that he spends most of his time out in the motor pool instead of actually doing anything related to intelligence.

@StormsandSaugeye

When you get to your first duty station you live in Barracks and depending on the site, you either have a room to yourself, which is about the size of a large bedroom, or you get a big room (Think studio apartment) and share it with someone (Did this in Korea, though I only shared in the last few months before I left). You can have your own TV and gaming system laptop etc. Just keep the room squared away and clean at all times. So like during the holiday season you can have a christmas tree and the likes, decorations in a general sense, a rug and even a few display things. Like I said, keep it clean and you'll be good. Obviously you can have civilian clothes and the likes too.

Wow... all wrong. I'm a DoD GS14, about to get my 15. When I review a military Vets resume, if his skills do not match the needs he is not selected for a DOD job. Listen to me young soldiers. It's great to serve Uncle Sam, as a vet myself I would not trade that time for nothing. But in IT or 25 series.. if you slack off and don't get certified, don't Maintain your skills, you will be overlooked. There is some college kid whom passed his certs overnight with a little bit of experience and he will be picked for the job. Now, if you have the experience, then you will win over that college grad. But to do any Army job and you think because you achieved E6 that you are a shoe in. Well, only if you know someone. When I look at Resumes most DoD jobs are for Vets anyway so that factor is removed. What's next? In IT experience, then certs, then Degrees. There is no checkbox for military alumni after you apply. Now, I give an unofficial point for Army and few unofficial points for E8 or higher, but if questioned by HR or IG it doesn't exist.

in my experience knowing and running into former millitary, the transition from millitary to civilian is very high-or-miss. I have known a LOT of people that just did not transition well from the millitay to civilian life for one reason or another, I ran into an old friend of mine I played Magic the Gathering with back in the day and he was in both the Army and the Navy and he still was without a good paying job after over a year. I have known people who went into the millitary and became very successful after the military because they had the right skills, the right mindset and a lot of luck getting where they wanted to go. Your MOS is a big deal, some MOSs do not translate well into civilian life, and some companies are more friendly to former soldiers then others, it all depends.

I'm not saying I don't believe you, I'm just asking because I want to know everything I can about military life and transitioning to civilian world, and how a lot of then go broke, bankrupt or become homeless.

Im 29 own a business but for some reason I want something new in life And the military has always caught my eye! Am I crazy ? I was thinking of going all 20 to retire at 50 .. the benefits are my long term interest .. I feel like I’m backwards because people get out of the military to come back into the civilian world .. but I feel I’ve lived that phase already ..

You're videos are solid. I appreciate how direct and informative they are. I will hopefully get to pick an MOS within the next 2 to 3 weeks and your videos have really helped me with the numerous questions I have had through the whole process. :D Thank you, Matt

I'm not sure what I want to do all I know is the stuff that interest me is swat for any law enforcement job. I have until late 2019 to think about what I want to do. The only mos's that interest me is 31B, 11X. I actually don't think I can be 31B because of the reckless driving ticket I got in June, so if I can get 31B that would be great, if I can't than 11B, and I've been considering 68W since it's like your more than infantry your a medic and an infantry soldier. The whole reason why I grew an interest in the military is because people kept telling me I should join because I love to fight and like to help people.

That's awesome I'm heading to MEPS three days from now for medical. I want to take 17C as well. I've been looking for more info about it as far a people who have gotten out of the job and how it translates to civilian life. But not a lot of videos online about this specific MOS.

I was Infantry and in California the majority of police, chp, federal agents are mostly Infantry. In California law enforcement jobs start around $60.000-90,000 depending on where. Many law enforcement will easily go over $100,000 a year and some over 200,000. with overtime.

In order to be a commissioned officer, you must have an undergraduate (bachelor's) degree. If you are serious about that path, plan for either hiatus or sacrifice free time on active duty for education.

The weakness of this video is nothing is said about a AIT school that you can pass. Army recruiters are good at helping a person decide what they like, but apparently it is bad news when a person is told they are likely not to pass the AIT school. When this guy mentioned his PMS, I can tell that he is an officer. He knows nothing about an AIT school.

Honestly. If you pick Infantry or combat arms. Make sure to apply yourself and branch out while still in. Infantry doesnt convert very well, unless you have some serious college credit/degree prior to your exit. Communication is one of the better, if not the best for low to mid score req'd MOS that will be available. Because you will get come customer service experience, automation training, IE Outlook, etc. CISCO Certification. Career networking.

3:30 into the video I just want to say just because you have these skills to deal with people and everything else listed, that doesn’t give you the certifications for higher paying jobs. There’s no job in the civilian sector for infantry and other jobs. However working with intelligence or medical you’ll have steps 1-3 completed and be ahead of civilians going for similar jobs and you’ll be taken more seriously not to mention getting civilian certifications would be easier since you’d already have the training.
