This is actually a pretty clear differentiation. If you're replacing your driver then the Callaway is the better club. If you're looking for more of a utility club at the top end of the bag then it's the Burner.

Marty Jertsen (PING VP of Fitting) talked about mini drivers on the PING Proving Grounds podcast a few times, and also in the WITB they posted on the PING YT channel. PING did some data analysis and found that players that drove the ball 300 yards or farther tended to use the 3-wood off the tee 90+ percent of the time. In this case, it makes a lot of sense to move to a mini, but also once you go mini driver and realize you're never hitting it off the deck, it makes sense to just carry a second driver like Finau did recently. Jertsen does the same - 12 degrees of loft and 2 or so inches shorter - so easy to hit. I started to do this and love the setup. Big driver goes 280, small driver goes 260.

The first swing with the MINI in factory settings, 240ish carry, and dead straight. That trend never changed in my practice session yesterday. I haven't tried either and probably won't. I can't afford to give up 10-15 yards, and because I'm not a long hitter, my driver misses aren't too offline/punishing anyway. I too agree it depends upon what missions you have for the club. I have an old Bang Golf 14 degree 3W as my driver, with a 42" shaft. I can hit the darn thing pretty straight, not far, those days are history, but straightish, definitely in the short grass. I am more a plinker, course management player. Other people, they will have diverse needs. I'm a mid-handicap player. I carry 5W, 7W, 9W, 11W, 7i-PW, and 52, 56, 60, 68 wedges. Find what helps you, use it, and practice lag putting a lot to 2 or 3 feet. Everyone can cut their scores using what fits their game/swing, course management, and lag putting to makable range.

Our little group still can post decent scores, just not a very exciting sight to see. Dink down the middle, chip on, one or two put, next hole. As a user of the TM mini burner as a 3 wood replacement I have 2 observations here. 1. Ball was too far forward, hit it more like a 3 wood hitting down instead, they perform better. 2. When you crank the TM mini down 2 degrees you actually open the club face 4 degrees also. People need to be aware of that as the TM and Callaway adapters are completely different. Callaway adapter can stay square. The TM performed brilliantly off the deck in this video, killed it.

I loved the TaylorMade BNR. I hit it within 10-15 yards of my driver, but with much more consistency. The problem was I kept reaching for it rather than my driver, which brought a degree of inconsistency overall into my driving. I only hit it an average distance, so 10-15 yards is important. No. I was a consistent 225-230 off the box, couldn't replicate the 270s I'm seeing video's like Rick's have. Which is basically a swing speed thing I'm sure. Needless to say, having the confidence to be in the fairway and calmness in a swing is a relief. I'm wondering if the Qi10 would add 20 more yards than the burner mini with the same swing speed? Hey Rick. A very valid comparison. But, I feel for a good player like you, who can also drive it well, the mini-drivers are always just going to be a club which you can hit well, goes shorter than the driver, and doesn't quite offer the versatility of a fairway wood. For the elite, like Tommy Fleetwood who carries a min-driver, they are so good that they can use it as a juiced 3-wood for par 5s, or tight tee shots. For me there is only one fundamental question that need answering for the average golfer who cannot keep the driver on the planet, and maybe only carries a 3/5 wood max is, is this going to offer 10-20 yards more than their 3/5 wood, with more accuracy than their efforts with driver. If so, then I absolutely see a place for these clubs for the masses. 10-20 yards, somewhat straight, can mean 1-2 clubs less on approach. I haven't really seen anyone do this type of comparison.

losing a few yards off the tee has to be acceptable if your score is going to come down. It just means your approach irons need to be on point. Great battle of the big names! 👏👏

You need to turn the taylormade head cover inside out, it would make it worth so much more 👍

What's the point of a mini driver? I feel like I hit my 3 wood better because the head is smaller. Maybe I need to look into this?

Couldn't you put the mini driver shaft in the Driver that's in your bag and see similar accuracy?

Well, it’s no surprise that you hit better the club that you like the most, isn’t it. If you have such a huge bias before even doing the comparative trial, it’s gonna definitely affect it. I think it’s very bold and refreshing for tailor-made to do a throwback retro look.

Interesting that you when you hit them individually on your other videos the carry and total distance off the tee where flipped

The looks of the clubs is truly personal opinion. I actually prefer the look of the Taylor Made. Does it affect performance, maybe but who really knows. I have to like what I see when I look down.

I’d love to see this compared to a string 3 wood like the tsr2+ or something similar

I have last years burner mini best decision I’ve made will never take it out of bag I struggle a lot less with it off the tee since a smaller face equals a bad shot not going as far left or right as a driver off the deck longer than a 3 wood makes more par 5s reachable in 2, the callaway is for most golfers a club just to be used off a tee being too hard to hit off deck the Brnr is the better all rounder and better value for money

Just saved me some $$😂 Those numbers are shy of my Cobra F9 3 wood at the same loft

Even though it is fun to see all these tests with clubs but never clubs for women are tested or shown. Maybe this could be added to make the picture complete!

Doesnt lowering the loft open up the club face?

correct. I have my Callaway mini lofted down and opened up to 12.5 with the heavy weight forward. I definitely get a pretty consistent little left to right shot with it. dont notice any drop off in forgiveness compared to the heavy weight being in the back.

I know Rick says his reviews are unbiased and they all are BUT on this occasion you can tell Rick wants the Callaway to win as a little part of him wants it in the bag 😁

Rick you need to review the Callaway Paradym super hybrid!

The Callaway struggled off the deck which is a super important part as it will likely be the replacement for your 3 wood. The BRNR is the better club
