There should be graduations, engraved on your slide for quick acquisition. Look at your big number or count the hash marks then reference your dial same way for your inch caliper.👍🏼

The digital ones are easy to read for most, the dial can be a bit iffy while in-between certain measurements, but IMO the dial is much better than digital. But the trick is to learn how to make repeatable measurements. You can easily force 2 to 5 thou without even knowing it. 👍🏻

👍👍 I’ve had 2 Shars branded digital. The only reason I bought a second is I lost my first one in a move. New battery every couple of years for both, returns to zero virtually every time. If it doesn’t, it’s typically me or trash in the jaws. Holds measurements after shutting off. I buy the batteries from dollar tree- keep a pack handy. Just an fyi on decent one with reasonable battery life.

I have a Mitutoyo dial caliper and a Harbor freight pittsburgh digital. The pittsburgh is my go-to because if it gets damaged, I won't be too upset and it's been repeatably accurate enough for my uses. Goes through 1-2 batteries a year.

I take the battery out after each use. Is a bit of a pain not being able to quickly grab and use it though

My HF digital is good but I don't trust reset zero every time. I mechanic and worked in machine shop. I prefer the dial caliper because I can trust them.

I know your pain. I currently have a 6" Brown and Sharpe but thought it would be good to have a metric too, so I found a Mac Tools duel caliper with a red and black arms. Very confusing and don't like it. I always resort to the Browne and Sharpe plus a unit converter app on my phone.

My HF cheapo is 3 years old and never needed a battery. I wonder if some have parasitic drain.

Good morning ,the metric caliper is like the inch just look at the slide rule every centimeter is 10 mm. You don't have to count the rotation of the dile

I think you gotta look at the rule and the dial to not have to count the turns

Don’t buy any of the Chinese Amazon calipers. I bought the top 4 rated ones and none were accurate. My advice is to spend the hundred bucks on the Mititoyo digital and be done with it. Just make certain to get the real deal. Lots of fakes being sold as originals. Battery is at least 4 years old on mine, is accurate and keeps zero. 👍🏼👍🏼
