I would love to learn more about my grandads clan. My proper surname is Ó Treasaigh (Treacy) my great grandparents came over to England from Co.Galway and the Connacht area. My great grandad John Treacy was listed as his occupation as a bricklayer of which I have continued the occupational tradition . My heavy Irish DNA is listed completely from Co.Galway, North Galway & Mayo, South Galway and the Connacht area. I know the Ó Treasaigh Sept were described as “fierce” and “war like” apparently and I did read somewhere once that they had been fighting the British 500 odd years ago, whether that is true or not. The Sept crest is a powerful looking eagle killing what looks like a goose. My Irish heritage and ancestry means everything to me as a man 🇮🇪☘️

From memory the split was that the senior line came from Sir Alexander Fraser, who fought at Bannockburn in 1314 and married Robert the Bruce’s sister. These are the Frasers of Philorth (North East Scotland) where Fraserburgh gets its name from. The Frasers of Lovat are from Sir Simon Fraser , his younger brother .

There are Welsh traditions regarding St Patrick. He says he came from Tafarnau Banwen, which was a small community of of Romanised British Christians near Neath. When my the Romans abandoned the Fortress and port at Nidum, there was a purpose built landing stage for a slave port which was utilised by Irish and Pictish raiders. St Davids was settled by the Irish, as was Pembroke and the Lleyn peninsula in north Wales. Patrick told the Welsh church that he was a swine herder, not a Shepherd.

St Patrick is reputably buried in a Protestant churchyard in county Down. He had a wife and family. His wife was a deaconess in the Celtic Christian church.

Originally Cathollic. Celibacy was imposed upon the clergy in 1123 The ''Celtic Christian church'' was Catholic.

He’s burried in Downpatrick together with Saints Bridgid and Columcille. The Church and grounds were Catholic but seized by the Anglicans during the Reformation. Patrick was not married. He was a priest and subsequent bishop; bishops were never allowed to marry in the Church. It is ridiculous and patently false to consider him as anything other than orthodox and Catholic in belief and practice.

You are beyond deluded if you believe that. It certainly does not match with the historical and ecclesial record. I get it, There is a quote from Terry Practhetts, The wee free men, "Her father rented it from the Baron, who owned the land, but there had been Achings farming it for hundreds of years and so, her father said (quietly, sometimes, after he’d had a beer in the evenings), as far as the land knew, it was owned by the Achings." This really resonates with me especially with as you said knowing our families have lived in one area for millenia.
