This is the best demo I've seen, Dr Distorto seems like the best for the buck, considering it is cheap. The Boss pedals don't sound natural. Freqout is probably the best if used within reasonable limits, cause it can offer very unnatural sounds as well.

Thanks! We share the same opinion about those pedals, although the feedback of the DF-2 is such a gimmick, I like it a little bit. Today I filmed a shorter comparison between these four pedals because this video was pretty long. Now I can finally sell those Boss pedals...

I came here looking for a review of the Freqout, but now it seems I'm going for the Dr. Distorto! Up till now I've been using an Ebow to generate feedback, but need something more controlled that I can use while playing. From these demoes, the Freqout seems perhaps too controlled sometimes (considering the nature of actual feedback from an amp), and the Dr. Distorto sounds closer to what I'd get from an actual amp. Not to mention, the Dr. Distorto is like half the price of the Freqout or either of the Boss pedals, am buying it immediately!

The FB2 makes an ugly noise if you hold it to long.The DF2 sounds synthetic. The Freqout offers a lot of control, but it also sounds artificial. The Dr. Distorto has to my ears by far the best sounding feedback tone. Thank you very much for your test. I have the Freqout and I was never happy with it. So the Dr. Distorto is a real discovery. I don't know how the Fender Runaway sounds and its very expensive on Reverb, but Dr. Distorto can be found on Reverb for a more or less decent price.

I just use my EHX Freeze pedal for "feedback" type tones. I like the freeze mainly because I like using my own fuzz/distortion. Not a huge fan of the distortion that comes with them. If I were to get any of your pedals it would be the Feedbacker Booster.

informative comparisons, as Mr. McMagpie pointed out using a freeze pedal for long sustain, which of these would sustain a tone indefinitely? And another question please...are they all true copies of the note being sustained or a built in 'feedback' sound? Thanks
@DIYguitarGuy
Жыл бұрын
Thanks. The only pedal that sustains it indefinitely is the DF2, but the problem is that it's before the distortion and the wild vibrato that's always present. The DF2 and Dr. Distorto play sounds based on the note you played (and they do it well), the other two boost certain frequencies that will make you guitar feedback, the Freqout does it a little better than the FB2, in my opinion.

One thing I’m trying to find out about the DF-2, does it track your bends?? Like, if you bend the note you are feedbacking, will the feedbacking note also bend??
@DIYguitarGuy

It won't. The DF-2 picks one note once you've held the footswitch down and it won't change. There's a section in the video called 'Playing with vibrato' whew I mention playing with bends. Only the FB-2 and Freqout track your bends.

There's a section starting around 24:25 in the video addressing bends and vibrato. The best pedal for bends is the Freqout followed by the FB-2. The DF-2 adds its own vibrato and it's not possible with the Dr. Distorto.

What rate? You can slow the attack of the feedback volume with the Onset knob. If you're referring to the rate of the vibrato, that's done by me plying the guitar. The rate of the vibrato on the DF2 is fixed and can't be slowed down.

I've got the Freq Out unit and it's the best thing ever made for guitar, your using it all wrong, you need to reduce the effect sensitivity to suit the players touch, it's capable of matching any style of players tone and personal playing style, the sweep of it's reaction can also be set to suit likewise, I don't know how you could miss that?? the range of octaves are mind blowing, you've got it sounding like a demented canary on one and a cow with gas on the next? study the instructions!!!!!

Hello of all these 4 pedals what is the most valid alternative of the sustaniac pickups?
@DIYguitarGuy
Жыл бұрын
Hi! I'd say any of the pedals except the FB2. The DF2 has endless sustain as long as you hold the footswitch down, the Freqout could act like it but it's a bit unpredictable when your note dies out. When you add a compressor in front of the Dr. Distorto it will sustain forever, but you have no control over it once it picks the note. If you want that kind of control where you can add vibrato, than you should go for the Freqout.

Playing through the distortion channel makes this a poor demo. How much is the amp doing? I usually feedback my amp and guitar with gain and proximity. Having high gained the amp already doesn’t give a true demonstration of the pedals actual effect.
@DIYguitarGuy
11 күн бұрын
Good point. Although you can see the gain control is up fairly high on the amp, on OD1 it doesn't sound that distorted. The volume is at bedroom level because these pedals are meant to create feedback in settings where natural feedback is not likely to happen. The amp is a couple of meters behind me and I can tell you this rig doesn't feedback without these pedals. That being said, all pedals sound like they create a synthetic sine wave of the note you played last or a harmony of it (the DF2 with added vibrato). Except for the FB2, which sounds like a cocked wah or a band pass filter with a narrow peak when you engage the feedback effect.
@rastaclint
11 күн бұрын
@@DIYguitarGuy If you test on Clean we can tell exactly what the pedal does, unadultered with our ears. I like the explanation you gave me. But that's not in the video. Having the amp gained makes your demo sound more subjective. Clean is universal. High gain and it's characteristics are device specific. So my high gain amp if different from yours is going to sound different than your test results. Get it? My day job is Live sound engineer and I am an Air Force trained electronic technician. And I have been playing guitar for over 40 years.
@DIYguitarGuy
10 күн бұрын
@@rastaclint Well, that's where the comment section comes in: you can discuss the things that aren't clear in the video. I think we have a different view on what high gain is and I don't think clean amps are universal, there's still a lot of tonal differences between them. I just choose a setting for this video that I think these pedals mostly will be used for: overdriven amp(sim)s at volumes too low to create feedback on their own. There are probably other videos on this platform showing how these pedals sound with clean amps.
