I did a Masters in Environmental Management and that paved the way for my sustainability job. My masters was also interdisciplinary, I did courses on Sustainability, Conservation, Environmental Management etc.

Thank you for this video! Extremely helpful, I've been so overwhelmed with the amount of degree options and these were the main degrees I was torn between. This was very helpful in narrowing it down.

Hey Tyanna! I am currently a senior in highschool, and bc college app season is upon me (💔), i have been so stuck on deciding which major to declare/aim for to choose the right university for me. My AP environmental science teacher recommended that i firstly become an environmental engineer, but i despise physics and math that I know i would be miserable. But he also said that getting a raw degree in environmental science would leave me in a situation where my skillset is a bit too broad. And so im unsure of what bachelors major i should pursue before taking on a masters to eventually become an environmental consultant😅 Sorry for the ramble. But i am really looking forward to any replies from anyone

Thanks for sharing more! I’d say both degrees will help prepare you for a consulting role and my advice while applying would be to go for the major that’s easier to get into bc you can also change majors while in college!

Hello! U can check out my other comment to see the predicament I'm in, but when pursing a bachelor's in environmental engineering, would you recommend that degree for those who don't like math 😭 otherwise, what was the hardest aspect when majoring in environmental engineering?

@@_hydrangea_5947 Well the syllabus would be different in different country, I'm from Indonesia but my major accredited by ABET so the syllabus wouldn't have much different with US based Uni. But, IMO environmental engineer is expected to be generalist, so we are trained to have a good understanding in basic math, physics, chemistry and biology (emphasized more on chem and physics IMO).

Hi Tyanna, I’m currently working as a developer at a sustainability consulting firm and am considering a career switch to sustainability. Do you think it's possible to build a successful career in sustainability without a degree, by following roadmaps with both theoretical and practical skills? I would appreciate your insights!

Is a master's degree necessary for a career in sustainability if you have a bachelor's in sustainability management? I was considering getting a bachelor's in sustainability management, but not if a master's is required to secure a job.

Hi there! I’d say the better bet is talking to someone at your company to learn more about what they do and seeing if that interests you. If so, perhaps you can see if they’re hiring on that team or ask your manager to see if you can work on side projects with the sustainability team to get some experience. Good luck

Hi there! No it’s not necessary to have a masters starting out in your career but it’s typical to have one as you move up the ladder. Hope this helps!
