I trained that for over 10 years..and yeah, the training methods are mostly jokes. That said, it is still very effective. People do grab you in confrontations and aikido will take that arm apart

Real sumo training is rough tho. Much more than any other martial art I reckon. Not due to physical exertion, but by the fact that you don’t live at home and don’t get paid until you make it to a pretty high rank. Oh yea and if you don’t get paid, you do cleaning and cooking.

Probably not what’s happening here, but it’s pretty common in jiu jitsu to start doing one move essentially just to bait a reaction from your opponent to help you set up something completely different. For example: you go for a choke, they put an arm up to defend, you take the arm bar. And of course if they don’t defend it you can still go for the choke

Muay thai stance eats double leg takedowns. Boxing+bjj only what you need as base. Dangerous on the ground and on your feet too. What does wresstling do if you can only choose beetween getting punched in the face or choked out?

@@tableprinterdoor Nope. Sanda is a completely different thing coming from several different Chinese martial arts(the throwing elements come fro different styles of Chi Na, and different styles of tai chi, Bagua(I believe), and Shuai Jiao(traditional Chinese wrestling).

Judo/karate as a kid, muaythai + BJJ as a teen, MMA as an adult. I was always pretty happy with my base. Very practical and useful in 1v1

You guys ever done eastern martial arts? The way those guys were screaming was kind of goofy, but when done properly it does multiple things: reminds you to constantly breathe, tightens your core and releases the air from your lungs so if you get hit you wouldn't be as winded, releases adrenaline, and if done properly can even scare/intimidate opponents
