Fantastic video Nate! Your commentary was very professional, and this was honestly very good subject matter, learned a lot about musicians even extending their careers success post mortem

Thought it could've been Mexican guitarist Chamín Correa, his career spanned over 8 decades. From 1935 to 2015, he recently died. I have not heard of Vera Lynn before, that's so cool though because she's passed the age of 100 and still is active. That's so impressive, she must incredibly love music

I have actually heard We'll Meet Again from Vera Lynn before somewhere despite not knowing her name and it's a surprise, I'm pretty sure my non-English speaking Grandparents never listened to it so I wonder where it featured. Perhaps some old war movie, no clue really... I don't really know. In any case, RIP Vera Lynn, great singer.

That is very true, he is not far behind Vera Lynn. According to tsort.info, he has had chart entries from 1950-2012, giving him a 62 year long career. You can take a look at my source if you want, I think it's really interesting: tsort.info/music/faq_longest_careers.htm

Crazy how Vera Lynn's singing career intersects with Billy Murray and Lil Nas X
@NathanielJordon
4 жыл бұрын
Isn't that fascinating? When Vera Lynn had her two first charting songs in 1939, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, and Glenn Miller were the most popular artists in that year. 80 years later, Vera Lynn remains musically active while Billie Eilish, Lizzo, and The Weeknd are popular.

@@NathanielJordon Musically active and you show a picture of her in a wheelchair. I would rather go to see The Rolling Stones than Vera Lynn. Lil Nas X cannot make good music, no matter how black and gay.

Not in video. Younger a bit but important to this discussion. Golden Earring had a long career. They were founded within the same decade as The Rolling Stones. Most Americans today do not know this. US media paid little attention this since the 1970s to today. Easily the most successful classic rock musicians from The Netherlands. GE disbanded this year due to illness of co lead singer George Hooymans. Good video! 😎

The brazilian singer Ângela Maria started her professional carrer in 1949 and end it when she died in september 2018 with 89 years old I think it was the longest musician carrer in Latin America and from Brazil.

The answer is: "career cannot be defined". What do you mean by charting? If the album is in the charts of Nepal, is it still as good as UK or US? Most Finnish artists don't have career then. I doubt Eini has never had an album charting in US, although she has been recording and performing since the late 70's and is still alive and well. Also Red Simpson didn't have long career although he released his first album in the 1966 and last in 2016.

Hello Reijo P., I would respectfully say that a career can indeed be defined. However there are probably thousands of different ways to define what a career is. Regarding what I mean by charting, I used a website (with their permission) that has a comprehensive database of charts from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Eire, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and the US. If a song or album charted in any of these nations, it would count as a charting. Both Eini and Red Simpson are eligible to qualify for longest career if they continue to release music longer than Vera Lynn has. Here is a link to my source if you are interested: tsort.info

Johnny Mathis has certainly had a long career, as well as other artists like Connie Francis and Paul Anka who are both still musically active as well. However, Vera Lynn beats both all three of these individuals by about 15-20 years.

@@captainamericaamerica8090 Yes that is true. In the video I defined "career" in two ways: 1.) the length between the musicians first and last charting song/album, and 2.) the length between the musicians first and last charting song/album in their lifetimes. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like you are defining "career" as the longest live music career. Johnny Mathis may, in fact, have the longest live singing career. However, this is not the question I am answering in the video. This could be a topic for a future video, though.

Johnny Mathis and Tony Bennett, two of my favorite singers but neither are musicians, which is what this video is titled. But Carusso was not a musician either so what is this video about, I call that to question?

I consider Johnny Mathis and Tony Bennett musicians. Essentially I use the words musician/singer interchangeably. Both of those men certainly have had very long careers.
