Camera is better, for low light video especially. But otherwise you're always on the betaest and buggiest version of Android and can't turn off automatic updates. So you'll have plenty of app crashes and what have you. The chipset will be a lot better this year because TSMC are making it but the other issues will remain. For people who just want to shoot videos of their kids and dogs and post them online the 600$ Pixel 9(probable price) will be the best phone - also my prediction for Marquez's phone of the year. Other than than the basic S series is a better phone with a more stable experience and the Good Lock App Store puts it far ahead in software experience

If I do upgrade, I can't decide between the Pixel 8 PRO or the S24+ or even the S24 ultra if I can get a great deal on it. As much as I love my Pixel, I really do miss some of the Samsung software features galaxy phones have. I don't understand why bloatware is an issue on a Samsung phone. If you don't need it, don't use it. Also, with the increased storage options you won't run out of space. Really, 128gb on the top tier "flagship?" Are you kidding me? Stock android, ditto. I tried near stock android on a OnePlus and a Motorola last year. They were missing so many options that I took for granted with a Samsung phone. You get options in software, customization, and a powerhouse processor with Samsung. One UI is the best and I've used it since it first launched. Until it's eclipsed, I'll stick with Samsung. This video highlights most of the Pixel's shortcomings. @silverhawk911

Overall performance, imo Samsung should be better since they are a more matured brand in the smart phone industry plus they have been in the consumer electronics industry much longer than Google. Techwise, in terms of chip technology, Samsung is way ahead as opposed to Google's chip. Maybe cost wise though, Google is the cheaper option. The thing about which takes better photo is subjective since diff people have diff prefs,depending on the photo effect that you want to portray. Photos processed by smartphones I think are over processed, since these are determine by the sensor chips and processing chips. The traditional camera still take more natural looking photos in my opinion but you may beg to differ on this. Some may say iphone takes better photos but imo iphone's photos look way too saturated while Samsung takes photos that are oversharpened. Still looking for the perfect one....
@hobbitpsi

Price is debateable. The price of the pixel 8 pro 128gb is the same price as the s24+ 256gb, so you're not getting a cheaper option, you're more paying more for less with the Pixel. Far as photos go, you're absolutely correct. Pixel takes photos I love that are more true to life whereas Samsung has always oversaturated the photos so they make more color pop, but that doesn't translate well with certain darker images, like for anyone of color Samsung will usually make us either darker or look bleached out.

Truthfully, 7 years of updates would never factor into my decision. Seriously, is anyone really going to use the same device for 7 years? However, if my choices were reduced to these two I would choose the samsung. It has received many much needed updates for this year's model. This would include quad hd, 12 gigabytes of ram, larger battery capacity and a much more attractive build. Not to mention, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 generation 3 chipset is far superior to the tensor g3. I would like to state that I skipped both of these this year. I chose the OnePlus 12. It in many ways outstrips the specifications of both of these devices. Moreover, it comes in at a much more affordable price. There is also a high level of availability for cases and third party products available. I have owned many OnePlus devices over the years and I've never struggled getting cases from leading manufacturers. This would include spigen, otterbox, uag, poetic, tudia and let's not forget one plus is own high quality bumper cases.

@@Hhhh22222-w no offense, I have many friends including my GF that are avid iPhone users. Most of them change up every year or two. For example, my GF just switched from the iPhone 14 pro Max to the 15 promax. Of course, if you can offer me empirical evidence via legitimate statistics, poles and math I may entertain your claims. However, it really sounds more like you're trying to feel better about using an iphone. LOL

I never had a phone that lasted 7 years. Most of the time the battery would die on the 6th year.

About 2 years ago my LG G5's original battery only last 2 hours on a full charge. I replaced it with a 3rd party battery since LG stopped making their battery a long time ago. It was good for a few months then it got the bootloop. Couldn't replace the battery anymore on my own cause it got stucked. Hope the battery tech in mobile devices would improve.

If you have young kids and want to capture pictures of moving subjects(kids, pets etc)mostly blurry free, the Pixel 8 Pro is a no brainer.

I went with the pixel 8 pro, and starting to regret it. I've had it for roughly 8 hours and 4 hours I slept and it went from 100% to 86% in that time. I disable as much as I can or uninstall the apps I don't use. WIth way less bloatware and a little bit bigger battery than samsung how is this possible? I'm not a sumsung fan by any means but I might look at the S24 plus. Battery, speakers and wifi connections are important to me. Could care less about the camera , I use that like 5 times a month? Samsung has so much crap on its phone it's rediciulous. Dex, modes and routine I never use and takes some time to uninstall or disable apps I never heard of? Having duplicate apps for somethings also I don't like along with the stupid notifications you get everytime you login to something, samsung is like apple to me with constant notificaions. I don't know much about motorola and seem like a low end type of phone. I do know they work on alot carriers like pixel and samsung do. Somebody mentioned a sony phone The price was kinda high and the updates were questionable (2 year updates I think)? It looks nice though but again it's made for mostly photographers.

@@FishBeeProductions I read that also about the battery, Theres just something that's not right with this P8P? Keyboard would not work here and there ( i put screen portector on) and took it off and it still does this? 1 other annoying thing is I can't get the call screen to work? I tried everything, Uninstall, force shut off rebooted 4 times. It's just annoying. I am really looking at the S24 plus now.

Are you new to android or coming from a very very old device? Because right out of the box, theres a feature where the battery is going to suck the first few days to a week as it's learning your usage patterns. Once it finishes your battery life will increase because it automatically closes all those pesky background running apps you never use.

@@hobbitpsi Any idea why the call screen doesn't work? Mine shows red and not working and believe me I tried the tricks of uninstalling and reinstalling the phone app, force stop and cleared cache and rebooted the phone like 8 times in this process and nothing? Guess I'll try customer support again. Also... No I am not new to android. I've had 1 iphone in my life for about 45 min before I took it back and that was I think Iphone6? It was small/mini phone and was junk. Hated it..
