Thank you! I love seeing these perspectives, especially when it comes from such a solid source. I've been much happier with plugins since I pruned off what I wasn't using and focused on tools that really get the job done. Here's what I most use & enjoy at the moment. - Reverb: Soundtoys SuperPlate & Waves Epic - EQ: Scheps Omni Channel, Waves PuigTec, Waves API550, TDR Nova, stock DAW EQ - Compression: Waves SSL, Waves CLA-2A & 76, FireSonic FirePresser, Waves MV2 - Loudess/Limiting: Sonnox Oxford Inflator, Waves L1, Waves Bass Rider - Guitar Amp: Strymon Iridium pedal, Overloud TH3 - Modulation: Soundtoys MicroShift, TAL Chorus - Mix/Mastering: Waves Abbey Road Mastering, Waves SSL, Oxford Inflator - Analysis: TBProAudio dpMeter, ADPTR MetricAB, Melda MLoudnessAnalyzer - Desert island plugins: Abbey Road Mastering, Oxford Inflator, SuperPlate, MicroShift

Thanks, Mike! Probably time to clean up my plug-ins soon. Busy gigging this summer so haven’t been in the studio for a few months. But definitely many I never use.

I learned my plugin lesson years ago 😅 Now I'm very shy about adding ANY at all. Mostly I just use what comes with the DAW.

I tend to agree. You can get so caught up experimenting with VSTs that you forget that the point is to make music... ;-)

Thanks for the insight! I recently cleaned up my plugin list to about 140 from like 900+ 😂. Most of the plug-ins I do use and kept were suggestions by you 🙂

If your DAW has an option to hide plugins from you that you don't want to see... It's kind of a nice option. you'd have to go looking for them.

Excellent demo of your plug-ins, especially the instruments. The piano and drums selections were great. I'm in the gathering info stage, as I'm about to try composing an instrumental orchestral type.

Perhaps I can offer some advice. As a hobbyist, I also wanted to get into orchestral programming, so I bought a bunch of expensive orchestral libraries on sale. I got a laptop with an 8 terabyte SSD so I wouldn't have to always be attaching an external SSD. So far, I have filled up more than 5 TB, including Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra, which is almost 1 TB, numerous other Spitfire libraries, and Native Instruments Komplete 14 Ultimate Collectors (which has a lot of Orchestral stuff). This is overkill. It will take me the next 30 years to learn all the stuff I have. If I were to do it again with the software available today, I would still do Komplete 14, but instead of BBC SO, I would get a subscription to Musio (by Cinesamples), for $9.99/month or $99/year. A few months ago, I agonized over whether or not to buy a lifetime subscription for $500 on sale (normally $1,000). I decided against it because I already own libraries with all the orchestral instruments that I want. I hate subscriptions, but I think Musio is worth considering for one MAJOR reason: you can audition and download individual instruments without downloading an entire orchestral library. I have heard it is not ideal for a professional composer of movie and TV scores, but that is not me. Best of luck on your journey. Peter.

I guess it depends on whether you are mixing your own songs and style or whether you are producing for other artists and genre's which means you will need a wider variety of plugins.

Thanks so much for sharing this video, truly I was also thinking about how to trash some out the list, and sometimes once a year or two a need might come for one, but but if possible to get rid of some it would a good idea. Thank You.

I have a question for you please. Is their a plug-in to pull music from a cd to create a midi track. I need to pull it into Studio One. A musician friend of mine sent me some of his music to perform by. He gave me permission to add lyrics. Thank you very much. Have a great day you abd your family.

Apparently they are discontinuing support for the free version and putting out some new paid programs. The free version 'may' keep working, but I'm not banking on it. Moving to Reaper.
