Hey @Shevonne Polastre I'm considering to take the Google certificate program and then CAPM so that I can get Study hours for CAPM and then I'm looking to go for Agile project coordinator or any entry level project management work. Could you please help me out with this as I'm getting a job offer for project coordinator but not in IT but in Automobile? So as you said that you would prefer a canditate with hands on experience than someone with all these certifications. Could you please help me understand if my experience becomes relevant because I want to niche into IT agile? Could you please let me know your thoughts on this? Also I'm getting a lot of suggestions to get Certified Scrum master certification done from Scrum alliance? Also, I have an experience of 1.4 years in Customer support for Uk process in Amazon and I'm looking to switch my career in project management as I have a degree in BSc(Comp. SCI)
@ShevonnePolastre

Hi Madhuri, I will be honest. I would hire someone who has agile, and IT experience even if they are not a Project Coordinator. In IT, it's much easier to help someone grow in a Project Coordinator position than to teach someone IT. So the only way I would give someone a chance who doesn't have IT experience is if it's someone who works in my company, and I am willing to give that person a chance, or they have worked in operations or supply/chain. Is the Automobile PC position in a department that is doing that? If I were you, I would consider getting the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM). It's usually a two-day course and then an open-book exam. I consider that certification was more valuable to me than the PMP because I still use what I learned at my job. If the automobile company had an IT department, I would become friends with the people there and offer your services. In this way, you get a job, which will help you move towards your career goal of getting into IT.

@@ShevonnePolastre Thanks for your advice . I forgot to mention I'm looking to become a Scrum Master so how would I get into Scrum master position in IT agile. So here's what I thought to get certification in first is CMS, then Agile in atlassian JIRA, Project management google certificate to crack CAPM because sometime sooner I would like to go into project manager position. So basically two position I'm interested to make career in as a beginner: Scrum master and project manager. How would I be able to get into entry level scrummaster position in IT agile? Does Scrum master experience counted for project manager in Agile framework industries? Also, if I take a software developer role in an organization? Will that be counted for Scrum master role? How can I start my journey to become a scrum master without any experience but CSM, JIRA and CAPM?

I'll be honest with you that the CAPM and PMP are more for making your resume stand out. My PMP bootcamp instructor even told us that because the way you run your projects is not the way PMBOK teaches it. The only certification I have found has been super helpful, and I use what I learned was the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) Sorry to hear the CAPM didn't improve your job prospects. What industry do you work in? It really depends what job industry you work in. For instance, I work for an IT consulting company, and I work with government clients. The PMP and CAPM is usually required to be a PM for majority of the US government agencies. For the tech people, they need to have their Security+ or CISSP.

@@ShevonnePolastre thanks for the response/feedback. It definitely seems like the case. I just don’t have the drive to get my PMP. I have been a member of PMI for over a year and I am not getting much out of it except for saving money on my CAPM. I am in the IT industry, currently working as a project manager in a small IT department. My current role is just barely scratching the surface of project management as the company doesn’t have ideal processes in place. They have me pigeonholed in a software support role with a project manager title. If I’m not getting dinged for not having a PMP, it’s for not having Microsoft Project experience. I’m hoping the MBA leads to more of an IT leadership or change management role. I’m also pursuing ITIL Foundations certification as well to help my resume.

Also, #Coursera did not say it will get you a job after completing the program. No program should explicitly say that anyway. Coursera says, it will have you "job ready in less than 6 months" which translates to what they also says helps you "PREPARE for a new career " once you finish. I know. It is a bold marketing claim but still not specific to actually "getting/giving/landing" one a job. I like the fact you mentioned giving this 🆕 program a chance to optimize itself & make itself relevant 2 the market instead of (completely) writing it off like some other reviewers. I'm doing the Google project management certification. I'm in a month number 3 and it's great that they have real project managers teaching the courses. You can search them all by name online to know that they're real and not actors. My only problem with the course is that your work is graded by other people who are as clueless as you are. So there are no experts to give you advice on how to improve your submitted documents for OKR, RACI chart, etc. And you know people just want to burn through the course so you're not going to get that quality feedback that you would need to grow as a student. But that's a problem with almost every course in Coursera. I'm very grateful for the opportunity that Google is giving the world to learn more about this profession and others.

Pmp ,pmi and so on .in my view I have been studying project management from youtube videos from all of the different certification institutions and currently doing saylor academy course as we don't all have enough money for those expensive certifications.it all comes down to how good do you want to be at your job

I have 5 years experience but only had my associates. Not I’m having a hard time finding another position because most people who are hiring managers don’t know the job so when they set the minimum requirement at bachelors. Regardless my experience I’m getting declined. I now graduate in April with my BAS and going into. MBA program right after. But it is rediculous that some of these managers are in charge of hiring for positions they know nothing about. I literally had to Train a coworker with his degree in MIT while he was making more than me because I started with an associates. The insult is real, I’m sure if I could get a interview it would sound impressive, but my application don’t usually meet the BS requirement so I never make it to the interview stage. Thankfully I also own my own business so I’ve been getting by until I can finish my education.

Hello to all, I'm interested to become certified PM and I have some questions regarding Google PM, CAPM, PMP certification. - is it possible to gain 35 PDU for PMP with Google PM? - does anyone have experience with using Google PM knowledge on CAPM/PMP exam? Is it worth it regarding the knowledge? - in which way I need to prove my PM experience when applying for PMP exam? Thank you for your help in advance :)

I was told that the pmi is only for people with a bachelor degree. Which certification is a higher salary , pmi or capm? I don't have any experience in any of these certifications but I have excellent communication skills with an associates degree

Not true. You can get the PMP if you don’t have a college degree. I believe you need five years PM experience instead of three. The PMP is higher.

Who would you be hiring for? Yourself or companies employing you? Is it then not about you and the company policy on who they want to employee be it a degree holder or a certificate holder? Personally I think unless you have your own company then u don’t have any holding to talk about who would be hired in any company so therefore advice on what course to take! I think advising people to look at the market, the companies and what type of people with what type qualifications they are interested in is more prudent that the position you are taking which is personal and full of gas…

Now that I've seen your video, I'm thinking of stopping the Google certificate and go with CAPM, I don't see this in the Coursera website though (where the Google Project Management Certificate is) where can I enroll for the CAPM? I am taking the Google Project Management Professional Certificate Program. I am in the 2nd course right now. I do have about 1 - 2 years of experience as more of an assistant PM but I have a 5 yr career gap because I became a SAH parent. I plan on taking the CAPM exam after I finish my Google courses. Would you say that that is a good path to take since I took a career break?

You can do the CAPM without doing the Google cert. Just like you can do the PMP. However, you need experience. One way is volunteer your time with small non-profits to start getting experience. Also, talk to your company about your interest.

Hi👋, Actually i planning to move my career in Project management. I had some few doubts it will be great if u help me with that ( anyone who's having answer for this also pls cmt it) " i can't find proper answer in anywhere ". My doubts are, 1. What are the roles & responsibilities of project management team in hierarchy basis like (junior BA > BA > junior PM > PM > PO) & the skills they need yo develop 2. Is the project manager or any one in the team of project management had to know the knowledge of coding/ program language skills in TECH domain. 3. What are the key certification those project management team persons had to pursue. 4. Is the project manager can able to switch domains like TECH to retail or any filed where there is need of project management.
