Great video! I started tretinoin + clindamycin gel back in October, then my derm switched me over to a tret-only cream in January, both at 0.025%. I'm very happy with it, and might think of going to 0.05% in a year. I can now tolerate it every night on cleansed skin, and even three times per week on my neck, where I used to get some painful acne. Seeing a professional was the best thing I could have done!

Thank you for the clearest explanation of retinoids I've seen. I also appreciate the caveat regarding damaged and aged skin not benefiting as much from a retinoid. That would actually be me. I've been using the Avene .1 retinaldehyde but it's pricey. Would love to see a video addressing these types of skin concerns for those of us over 65.

I am on tretinoin 0.05 and using the retinoid sandwich method due to damaging my moisture barrier with onexton and tretinoin 0.1. Winter came and it was so bad so I quit onexton and use a bpo wash plus tretinoin 0.05 using the sandwich method. I love the sandwich method and plan on continuing it long term. In summer I am considering go back to tretinoin 0.1 since I. Use it for acne purposes to keep the hormonal stuff at bay when my cycle comes around. Is it bad to continue the sandwich method long term? I am only considering the bump to 0.1 if I continue the sandwich method since I don’t think I can tolerate it on my bare skin due to retinoid dermatitis in the past. Thoughts on the bump and long term use of sandwich method? I loveee your channel is has helped me so much. Derm just told me they want me on 0.1 and no guidance or tips how to get there

Just wondering, does putting moisturizer after tretinoin lowers the efficacy of tret? How long does it takes for tretinoin to absorb into the skin? Of course, it depends on how sensitive your skin is/ how it handles and whether it requires moisturizer. But I've been curious on how to amplify the effectiveness of tret and whether is true by just applying tret and nothing else after (like serums/moisturizers) can *really* reap the benefits of tretinoin.
@johnandreyrebajado5963

It really requires moisturizer to keep the moisture on your face because tretinoin is so strong that it can make your face flaky, itchy, and dry. It doesn't affect the efficacy of the tretinoin since you need to apply it first after cleansing. If you have dry skin you need to follow the Sandwich method so tretinoin would not penetrate directly to your skin which can put your face on a higher risk of irritation. How do you do it. Wash your face with gentle cleanser, apply moisturizer on a damp skin, wait for 10 minutes for your face to absorb moisturizer then apply your tretinoin then moisturizer again. Moisturizer just serves as the barrier to minimize irritation.

Hi! I am new to your channel. I am 52 years old and have pretty much ignored skin care till a month ago. I am Filipino, have history of bad acne till maybe in my 30s, never really wore sunscreen. I live in Central Florida so its humid here. My main concern is pigmentation maybe due to acne scars and I also have sun spots plus wrinkles on my forehead thats more pronounced now. I also have dark circles and baggies under my eyes. So I am changing my routine right now slowly as I do my research watching videos online. So what I am thinking for am routine is Cerave SA cleanser, timess Vit C serum, Vichy mineral 89, Australian gold sunscreen or le roche posay double repair with spf. I have tried the cleanser and Vit C and I can tolerate it pretty well. My night time is the one I am still putting together....I have le roche posay cleanser and currently using timeless coq10 serum, timeless eye cream and LRP double repair moisturiser. I have ordered and want to include the following.... naturium glycolic acid which I saw you recommend on one of your videos, and I also ordered adapalene., versed eye balm, etc. My question is how do I introduce glycolic acid and adaoalene into my routine that won't freak out my skin. Also, will adaoalene work for antiaging or should I just look for a retinaldehyde? I remember as a teenager using tretinoin but financially can't afford dermstologist right now. I have also experienced dermatitis 10 years ago and I think I was mixing products I had no idea did and it just freaked out my skin. Thank you so much for your content and I have loved watching your videos :)

Amazing video! Thank you. Question - I have been using tazarotene .1% for over five years now, initially for acne but now I'm mor concerned about photo aging. Is there a possibility that skin can develop a tolerance to the retin-a and thus it becomes less effective over time? Or no? Hey Dr. Jenny, I ordered various products according to your recommendations and I’m a little confused on exactly which products will suit my skin type and specifically which products are safe for me to use. I need a step by step skincare routine. Therefore, just to give you a summary. I’m 19 years old that is dealing with hyperpigmentation due to post acne marks, I get white heads from time to time, and acne that’s always white and painful and ready to be popped😂, it keeps on growing on my chin and the sides of my face and a little on my forehead. I was thinking about buying adapalene by la roche posay adapalene 0.1%. I also ordered your recommended Cera Ve benzoyl peroxide cleansing foaming cleanser and now I’m ready to use adapalene. Which retnoid would you say is best for my skin and age. Is there anything else you would recommend?
