I'm not a professional by any means, but i could tell that the Yamaha is the Beyerdynamic DT-1990 Pro of speakers... Absolutely trash, too much treble, unbearable listening experience.... it is also bass anemic... KRK sounded slightly more veiled in the mids, but everything else sounded perfect. I would also have gone with the KRK for those reasons... I think you can use the built-in EQ to boost the mids though, so the KRK sorta comes out on top, methinks. :)

Great video, Edward! Yamaha HS5: definitely sound better in your sound comparison. Excellent mids and clarity. They indeed sound flat and a great choice for more serious music production. Having said that, a possible downside is that these do better in an acoustically treated room. Placing these in an untreated room, those great mids will be bouncing all over the place and may feel overpowering. This may result in listening fatigue after a short while. Hope this makes sense. KRK Rokit 5 G4: Better bass for sure given that larger bass port up front. The mids and highs are definitely there in a very nice way but not as bright/clear as the Yamaha HS5. For some reason, the KRK’s sound a little muddy in your recording, but in my experience, that’s not the case when listening to them live. The overall sound of lows, mids and highs are very well balanced in the KRK’s which will result in a more pleasant listening experience. This will become apparent when sitting in front of your monitors for hours in a normal (untreated) home studio listening to all kinds of music and sounds. In a non-acoustically treated room like the ones most of us live in, this is something to keep in mind. KRK even has an app that listens to your speakers in your own room and the sound waves being produced and bounced to set the digital EQ in the back accordingly. I agree with you that both are EXCELLENT choices of studio monitors. It will just depend on the kind of sound studio you have at home.

That being said if you're mainly just listening and want good speakers KRK is the way to go because of the low end. I use the KRK's to check the low end and highs. The yamahas I use to really dial in the mids and low mid freq. Both Speakers are of great quality. Try not to take this constructive criticism too hard, but I thought the video sucked. I'm not going to roll out a resume or anything like that but i've been in the audio game a LONG time. The first glaring issue here is that you're making content just to make content because that benefits you. There's usually nothing wrong with that but it just sold 120 thousand subscribers short of a quality education. There is no 'better' studio monitor. It's a 'reference' monitor. That means you reference it against other monitors. Why is this important? Because it allows you to understand how a mix done on your reference monitor translates to other systems in the real world. Livings rooms, car stereos, headphones, etc. People shouldn't be jumping all over the latest tech here when it comes to a reference standard. There's a reason some of the best and longest standing studios in the world use the same monitors. Because engineers weather in house or visiting understand that monitor and it's particular sound signature and they understand how a mix done on those will translate to the real world. If that monitor lacks top end for example, they've learned to compensate by listening to their mix in the real world and comparing it with their results on their reference standard. Once they have mastered an understanding of their standard, they're all set. You don't see them running out and shopping for the latest tech because that goes against the principle and will instantly ruin their mixdowns. There's a reason the NS-10 is still in world renowned studios 45 years later. It's not because somebody didn't make a better speaker. The NS-10 doesn't even sound that great. But they know how a mix done on a pair of those will translate to the world. That's really all it's about. If you're a first time buyer, pick a standard and stick with it. Don't pick it because it 'sounded better' than the others. Pick what has your necessary features, fit's in your work space and doesn't have a ton of artifacts that will just annoy you while you work. Like port noise. Something the Yamaha HSM did not have when compared to every. single. other. monitor I auditioned the live version of 'Hotel California' on when the first drum hit dropped. Hell, one set unloaded! That's irritating and a problem no properly designed enclosure should have. Pick something that you can pick details out of without trying too hard. You'll just get listening fatigue. Studio hours are long ones. All points your video didn't even come near. These are the things that truly matter and industry veterans unanimously agree on.

I’ve got Yamaha Hs5 for the longest time so I can comment on this better. If you are a dance music or hiphop producer, Yamaha will be a tough choice for you for its lack in sub end. You will miss that extra thump. For years of not getting that thump my ears are tuned to it and I know if a sound in a Yamaha is certain at low end how it would be in the club. For everything else KRK has no match with the Yamaha.
@GeorgesonOfficial
3 жыл бұрын
You should've also compared them to the original track so that we can see which speaker actually translates better and gives off a more true sound. From comparing the speakers alone, it's very obvious the HS5's sound clearer and KRK more "muddy" but with comparing these to the actual track, a lot of times, opinions will change, some may instantly turn heads and say HS5's is missing low end and only the mids are pronounced so of course it would sound clearer and in your face. A Flat Response isn't to just emphasize the treble and sound clear (not saying the HS5's exactly do this), but it's about reproducing an accurate sound, meaning what goes in is also what comes out. So whichever monitor sounds closer to the original track in most of our sound systems, that is the one that is more flat. I do not own either of these monitors but I don't think this comparison will have a true representation of these KRK's or Yamaha's. The rest of the video however was great, thank you as I am still deciding between these two for my first monitors :)

So far, I think the HS5 is easy to work with for piano, guitar and vocals, the bass is there, but a little lacking I would say, not by a lot just needs a little more. I also seen somewhere that the HS5s bass sounds “okay” in untreated rooms, but once you treat it well, you hardly hear the bass. I have an untreated room so I went with the HS5s since most people tell me they are better for untreated rooms than the KRK (their bass sounds muddy UNLESS your room is treated decently). I can’t tell how true that is since I’ve never heard KRKs in person, but I just went with HS5s. If my room was acoustically treated, I would’ve went with the KRKs.

If your mix is bad, the Yamahas will expose you. The punchiness of the KRK caused me to choose the Yamahas. Treat the room and add a HS8 and if you can't mix on those, you can't mix. The KRKs I found deceptive, like you said, modern, crunchy, even mid-high muddy a little. If you are too harsh on your highs the Yamahas will make yours ears hurt. They really expose that middle and once you master the stereo imaging, watch out. Love em.

krk has the brums kick and bass punch sound much deeper than the yamaha ...but mid range like guitar and vocals yamaha is way cleaner...by the way i think the volume u set on yamaha is a little louder than krk

The Rockit sounds phased and not as clear. As if the entire track was fed through a chorus, phaser or flanger first. Of course it could be that you chose a very electronic processed song in the first place to test it on. So they may be accurately reproducing it. Guitar, bass, drums and piano would be better. Recognizable instruments. Before autotune.

Everyone is saying the Yamaha is better but I'm not so sure. Krk low end is a ton better. To me the yammys high end sounds good but it's a little jarring. Almost too much high end and you can tell the lows are a lacking. Both are good choices and the pick is personal preference. The rokits have come a long way and they aren't just big bass over load monitors. They have a nice flat response now.

Yamaha sounds crisp! On the high end / vocals! The bass is there too! Krk got the bass just a little bit over the Yamaha but not by much! The highs on the krk sound too muffled IMO. I think if you add a subwoofer to the Yamahas, they'll destroy the krk

Yeah. 2 my ears the KRK has a dampened, plastic sound compared 2 the Yamaha. (Judging from this stream.)

Both speakers have then know flaws. The KRK's Rokits all models are know for their overhyped bass response. Many people mix on the KRK Rokits then take their mix and play it on another system with normal speakers and wonder where their bass went. The Yamaha HS5 has midrange bump that can sound harsch. But the Yamaha HS7 and HS8 don't have that same midrange bump, I would suggest going with the bigger Yamaha if you have the room for the bigger cabinets. Now you can use anything IF you understand what you are listening to and can compensate when mixing on them. It's all about developing your ears so you understand what your hearing.

Rokit speakers worst buy ever. Dumb 'smart' controls that keep switching them off if they're not blasting your eardrums.

Definitely easy to decide. Yamaha sounds open, wide and clear. KRK sounds mid-range, musty and with little transparency. Thank you for your comparison. But: From the beginning you talk 2 minutes about nothing. Sorry.

Krk speakers are shit will never buy Krk again.. Tannoy and Adam monitors speakers are the best way to go.. Krk are the worst and I have many different monitors.. Krk speakers are always hissing or buzzing absolutely dreadful
